We have shared the Few Steps for the Garmin Nuvi 1490 update:
1. Firstly, you must go to the add device and click on it.
2. Then you find your GPS device.
3. In-app, you will search by itself if any updates are shown.
4. When the update list opens, you have to click on the select all.
5. After that click on it and install all the updates.

You didn't say how long you've had your device, but if you haven't registered your device at Garmin.com yet, go do that and they will then offer you a free upgrade.
Other than that, I don't think you'll find anything free. The next best thing is to buy the "nüMaps Lifetime™". I felt this was the best deal they have.

Asmany as there are FREE dinners Updates are not free, unless you paid full price for it when you bought it. Free upgrades are a deceptive myth. If you get a free uograde its usually minor and was included in the price of the pack.

To reset your unit power it off, place your thumb on the bottom right corner of the unit and then power it on still holding the bottom right corner. you will receive a message " Do you want to erase all user data?" select yes to reset the unit.
