I am having the identical problem.  My TV won't recognize any signal but the VGA.  I don't have HD or composite signals from any of my devices (nor the cables to even ATTEMPT to connect them, so I haven't tried those, but all the RCA, RG-5, and S-Video connections are not being recognized.

I've tried upgrading the software as per the RCA website, and I've tried using different devices, all to no avail.  RCA doesn't offer very good support from their website, so tomorrow, when they open, I'm going to attempt to contact their support centre.

We had the same problem. It is the digital board, and RCA has no parts in stock. If your TV is still covered under warranty, contact RCA for a replacement TV - that is what we had to do. We were told by RCA that this is a problem they are having with this particular model.

We bought this model last night...manual in a foreign language, incorrect remote came with it, and it doesn't display ANY analog channels from the cable provider...worked fine on the Westinghouse smaller screen that was plugged into the exact set up for months.

    Hmmm....something smells fishy...it's RCA

  • rconant18 Jun 22, 2008

The TV was operating fine, then the program stopped and I received "Unusable signal". I removed the cable connection and tried using input for VID1 and VID2 received same fault, (reprogrammed for these ports). The unit is about 6 months old. Can anyone help?

I am having the same issue, but something else as well....while watching the TV all of the sudden it went black and says UNUSUABLE SIGNAL on all of my analog channels (we have basic cable, NOT HD/digital cable). I have upper channels that are digital and for some reason they are watchable. The RCA Tech Support line guy (from the few sentences I did understand) said to unplug it and waited a few minutes & he told me to plug it back in. Well, I did and now I still have the trouble but NOW there is also something jacked up with the volume. I can see the digital channels but to hear it they all have to be on FULL volume and it still sounds half-muted and crackles like blown car speakers. Those who had it fixed....how much did it run and what was the non-RCA brand fuse/part that fixed it??

  • shangman Jan 16, 2009

i have a l46wd22 with no audio or video on basic av conections, also no sound on any. I have seen that it is a fuse that is rated too small and has to be replaced by a "G; fuse instead of the "F". Were is the location of this fuse, also is it hard to replace? I have seen were to purchase it but need assistance on installing it.

  • sadie089 Apr 13, 2009

watchin tv then went black and said unusable signal. tried makin sure it was on the right input such as cable/aux/etc and it was right and it still says unusable signal. i have been seeing on here that most people are saying its their digital board (and that they're hard to find.) is it the whole digital board that i should replace?

OK...1st of all I want to GREATLY tetraedronic, who wrote to replace the F fuse with the G fuse. I noticed our TV had the exact same thing go wrong. I searched for the item # F1455CT-ND and bought it from www.digikey.com for a whole $2.85 including shipping. It arrived in about 2-3 days. Hubby bought a fine SILVER SOLDER and a $20 solder gun @ HomeDepot. We placed a quilt on the kitchen table, turned the TV on it's face and took off the base & back and them the back panel on the metal casement. About 2 inches behine where the coax plugs in there is a TEENY TINY fuse with an F on it.....we placed the new G fuse right on top of it and with the use of a magnifying glass we barely touched both ends with the solder and reassembled all we'd disassembled. Hooked Coax and power back up and BADDA BOOM....we have sound and the analog channels back. For us, there was NO other option. NO ONE here in SE KS will touch this TV. Oh, and when I say this fuse is small.....well...be prepared....you may inhale it, it is SO dern small. I bet it would take 4 or more of them to cover the head of a match from a matchbook...NO LIE. E-mail me with any questions if ya need. jbs_fanci@yahoo.com

Once again, THANKS A MILLLLLLLION for this fix idea!!

Thank you Jbs_fanci and whoever told you too! I bought two of the fuses ( one as backup) and carefully soldered one in place. A very fine soldering pencil with just a tad of solder tinned on it can be held over each end of the part and carefully transferred on to the fuse. Now the TV woks great, just like new. Yeah! I took pics of the whole procedure. Thanks again!!!

Did exactly what jbs_fanci did and the TV works great! The fuse is very small and is a little tricky to solder but this will fix your tv if your experiencing problems with sound and picking up analog channels. Just solder the G fuse on top of the old F fuse and put the tv back together. The G fuse is .81 cents at www.digikey.com. I bought 3 fuses just in case I messed one up or lost one.

The problem is a VERY tiny fuse on the signal board. Same problem and fix for L42wd22, and L37wd22 models.
I can fix this board for a FRACTION of what a repair tech will charge you. Email me at aplusrepairs@triad.rr.com

I was having the same problem. Apparently there are problems with the "digital board" RCA part #274704. Unfortunately the part has been on backorder for a while. Good luck finding one.

I also had the exact problem about 2 weeks ago on my L46WD22. Took it to the authorized repair shop and they told me they had others on their shelf for over a month. Since the board has been on back order for a while, my repair shop called and actually got to talk to an engineer at RCA. The problem seems to be a surface mount fuse that RCA said they also could not get. My repair center said that he found a fuse to fit the board, and though it was a higher rated fuse, installed it. TV works fine and it is back in my house, but the repair center is not getting paid for the work they did not fix it!!!

This is a resolution mismatch problem. One of the devices will not accept the resolution of the other. Try another type of connection or try another input.

Most DVD players and maybe the Wi are connected via rear audio and video input jacks so that may be your issue.

Entivoe DVD player worked fine. The next day, the tray opens, closes and the power turns on and off but the screen says only "Unusable signal", either with or without a video disc in the player. If there...

check the connection cable to the tv, unplug this an replug it to see if this helps.
if you used a cheaper HDMI cable for example the connectors are very wobbly and often make poor contact....

My RCA L46WD22 TV turns on but there is no picture or sound, just "unusable signal" message.

This is a very common problem with these models.
The problem is a fuse that has blown, if the following is true:
No Video on any input BUT HDMI and
No Audio at all.
Purchase a fuse, these are freaking tiny from digitalkey.com or mouser.com F1455ct-nd
Pull the back off of your unit
Pull the cover off of the PCB housing. It is the box that contains the hook ups including the cable tuner.
The silver box that you screw the cable to is where you begin to look for this fuse.
About two inches behind this silver box is some numbers printed on the board 7c32 and partially obscured will be 1c33
Using a big magnifier look next to the numbers listed above, you should see a tiny rectangle fuse with an F on it.
This F fuse is a 500ma fuse that is too small for the load
The fuse listed above will have a G on it. It is a 750ma fuse.
Call the repair shops in your area, tell them that you know the problem, have the part and you want to know how much the bench time and labor will be to repair your unit.

RCA L46WD22 LCD tv (3 year-old unit)...No picture, tried unplugging for a few hours to ''re-set'' the computer...nothing, tried to view a DVD, nothing, just a black screen with the ''unusable signal''...

The back lights inverter is working because you can see the "Unusable Signal' on the screen, if the inverter is dead, yoo will see nothing on the screen at all.
If the T-CON (LCD controller) is dead, you will see just gray glowing screen with no pictures or text.
You may have problem with video processor in the main logic board (tuner, audio, source selector).
Parts for your TV:
http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?q=RCA+L46WD22+&stock=all&limit=100

This is going to be difficult repair since you do have a way to try out the replacement board to be sure that is the problem. RCA service person has that advantage of parts in stock to try out.
I estimate the board from Jimmy to be about $150, from RCA will be twice as much, plus labor.

I am having issues with my RCA L46wd22yx5. First cable is on channel 3. that channel keeps saying unusable signal. Video 1 is the DVD player. Same thing..Video 2 is the Xbox 360 same thing and the HDMI1 is...

Check to make sure that the individual cables are connected to the corresponding channel. For example, DVD player is connected to the "Video 1" output on TV. On the back of your DVD, the cable is plugged in the "out" output, going to your TV the cable is plugged in the "in" output(red, white, yellow) Are you using an RCA cable(red, white, yellow) for the units?

What is your TV input connection? Are you using Antenna? Cable? Dish?

The Unusable Signal sounds like the TV is not getting a signal. Does your TV have a built in HD Tuner?

If you are using Antenna you might want to try setting up the connections and it should search for quality channels that you get good signal strength. If you are on channel 2 and there is no over the air channel 2 it may say "unusable signal".

Hi. What you need to do is plug in a cable or Antena in its place, and reprogram the channels. if you did that, then try to use a VCR or DVD player and install it using the RCA cables. Install the cable to the DVD or the VCR. If nothing works, My TV has a crack in the LCD. I'll either sell it to you, or buy yours. Let me know. Thanks.... email me to hajum30@yahoo.com
Thank You...
