Question about RCA Audio Players & Recorders

Main speaker outputs dont work.

RCA RS2656 - 400W Audio book shelf system

All of my speakers work when hooked up to a good source, but none of the speakers would produce sound when testing each one on the main ouptputs. My bookshelf system has a sub-woofer output, 2 woofer ( L & R) outputs and 2 main (L & R) outputs.

I cracked open the case and just looked for something that would look not normal and found a capacitor melted to the board, i used a soldering iron to remove it and replaced with the same size / capacitance capacitor from radio shack. This did not help, all the fuses look fine but i guess i could take them out and check them.

I have some tools but i don't know what i am doing. I have a multi-meter, a set of wire strippers, and a soldering iron. I would like to do the work myself if somebody could walk me through it, but if not i would be willing to pay somebody to fix it as long as it was cheaper than buying a new one.

Please help, thanks, John

Thanks, where could i get it repaired at? I don't think i'm going to check all of that stuff, i'll probably just have somebody else repair it, but if i decide i want to, then do i have to remove each component from the board so that they are isolated when i check them? how do you test a transistor? How do you test a trace? Is a trace just where the copper lines are on the board? or are they the little metal bars on the board? I would assume that you would test them using the ohm / resistance part of the meter so that you could tell if there is a complete circuit.

Hey John
Sounds like a big problem, and might take a bit of experience to fix, So i would suggest getting it fixed by a expert just to be safe and not breaking it even more.
But then again it may be just the fact that your not using the right speakers? I cant personally say since I'm in the computer career.
Have a nice day. Laurence

John,

Using the multi-meter, check all the resistors and transistors that are attached near to the melted capacitor. If the resistors and transistor are fine, then check the traces and make sure that there's no broken trace(s).

Repair would not cost you too much

No sound coming from main stero

If the speaker wires are connected properly to the main unit and the unit lights up then the problem is a bad audio output ic, a common issue with Book Shelf Systems. The only solution is have it replaced with consideration of cost in mind.

What are the correct speaker connectors for this unit RCA, Phono ,3.5 mm ?

Does it have a speaker output - I'm sure it does? More likely it's the 3.5mm. which may look like for headphones. The RCA are for low level signals so therefore it's not for the speakers. Do the speakers have two wires a piece? If they are, then there should be speaker output clips on the stereo to connect to. If they look like phono plugs then they go into the speaker output jacks.

I just got a 1000 watt home system what kind of cord do i need to hook up my system to hear my speakers through my tv

You will need to connect a RCA Audio Cable (see link to image below) from an audio output jack on the rear of your receiver to the audio input jack on your TV. Be VERY careful as to keep volume down as most all TV speakers are geared to take low inputs. With your 1000w receiver, it is always tempting to crank it up and end up blowing your speakers.

I'm trying to hook up using 2 little rca speakers, for L/R i've set the reciver to 2 speaker setup and for some reason i can't get sound from my speakers. any ideas? I've got HDMI from a Samsung DVD player...

If the amplifier supplies a different resistance rating (ohms) than the speakers draw, it might automatically shut down the amplifier to protect from damage. Make sure the Teac output matches the speakers required input. Hooking up speakers that draw 8 ohms to an amp that supplies 2 ohms can cause amplifier damage.

Connecting a sonos 90 to BO 8000 active speakers

Does your sonus system has pre-out? you can directly connect one single rca cable to each output into the speakers. make sure, each speakers is set to left and right each channel. these switches can be found above the rca input of the beolab 8000 next to the power link input. You have to understand that by using powerlink source cable is ideal only for other bang&olufsen equipments......however, there are other options, if u don't have a pre-amp output of your amplifier, you can also modify the speaker out of the amp, thru a conversion cable available from bang & olufsen, with an rca cable left and right channel, without interfering with the powerlink.

Protection circuit trips a low audio output level MX-W50

When you unplug one speaker (from the back of the receiver) and the rec. works good, then the speaker that you unplugged is the bad one, or the wire that is hooked up to that speaker is bad. Repair the speaker or the wire.

No audio output.

Most bookshelf systems rely on plasitc spring clips (or locking clips on some other models), on both the back of the main unit and speakers, to grasp the ultra-thin speaker wire. They could have easily pulled out of the clips if it was moved. As you check your speaker wires, make sure that the insulation on the wire is stripped far enough to not interfere with the wire in the jack. If the wires are good, check your input source to be sure you've selected CD, radio, tuner, or AUX. You can cycle through these options by using the source button. Make sure the mute is not engaged.
