I have a rcs hdtv. i have a picture, but no sound. ive tried hooking it up to some external speakers, but still no sound. any suggestions?

first, i wonder what you are trying to watch? a dvd player? a cable box? do you have your cable directly to the tv? if you try a different source, do you get sound?
on the tv, if you go into menu and sound options, did the speakers somehow get turned off?
or, is there a switch at the rear of the tv to allow your tv speakers to act as a center channel? if so it may have been hit and switched off the speaker output. my tv has one located right where all the connections are and i've hit it accidentally a couple times.

Tv went off and won't come back on.

the arcing sound is some kind of high voltage leak, which will shut down the tv. pull the speaker grill off and the access board, look at the 3 picture tubes, turn the set on you will see where the leak is, it's usually the high voltage splitter, which has a high voltage wire going into it and 3 high voltage wires coming out going to the picture tubes, if it arcs from the splitter you need to change it, if it arcs from one of the picture tube wires you need to pull the tube out and fix the high voltage leak, and possibly a cooling fluid leak caused it, not an easy reapir, you probably need a repairman.

the damage might already have been done. you can try to take off the speaker grill and the panel behind it to see the CRTs and check to see if there is any liquid damage. there are 3 different Cathode Ray Tubes in your set check the boards they plug into for any liquid and clean as best you can.
after all is said and donand the tv doesnt work i would try and find a tv repair center to look at.
