ITunes won't recognize my iPod nao (3rd gen., 4 gb)
I tried everything! I tried unplugging, I tried rebooting, different cords, restarting, deleting everything from my iPod and this is my last solution! I really just want my songs on my iPod! When I plug my iPod nano in the USB cable cord and start iTunes up it won't recognize my iPod! Any suggestions!

Open itunes, connect your Ipod to the computer with the USB cord, a message will come up saying "iTunes could not connect to the ipod because it is disabled/locked with a passcode". press cancel. Unplug your ipod from the USB cord. Now shut down the ipod, hold in the home button at the bottom and connect the USB cable back up, keep holding the home button down and you will see a picture of a USB cable and iTunes on your ipod screen. iTunes will say it has detected an ipod in recovery mode and would you like to restore it to factory settings? Click restore and sit back for a few minutes until it restores everything to factory settings. Your ipod will reboot and iTunes will detect it. You can then go into the ipod and install a new pass code if you wish to. Hope this helps, Rob
to update your ipod touch second gen to 4.1 version you must connect to your itunes account on your computer with ipod attatched sync all apps, music, videos, everything because it will delete everything and needs everything backed up. then go to your ipod on itunes and it will say update, click it it will take around half an hour to update and restore you ipod fully. This worked for my ipod touch gen 2, it kept saying when i tried to update i still have things on my ipod not synced to itunes when i have synced multiple times but it updated ok and i do not notice anything missing. this is all i know about this i hope it helps.

you have a software cooruption. the only way to fix this is to do a restore. try plugging it into itunes and see what happens. if itunes recognizes the ipod it will tell you to restore it. if itunes does not recognize the ipod you need to unplug the ipod and turn it completely off. then you need to plug the ipod while holding the home button down until itunes recognizes the ipod and then it will tell you to restore it.
I tried different computers and cords... I ended up opening iTunes
without the iPod and going under Help/Run Diagnostics. I selected to
run diagnostics on just the iPod, an error message came up and then it
worked. I'm not sure HOW it worked, but it did.
The 5 Rs: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore
Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem with iPod shuffle. Try
these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved. If one of the following doesn’t
help, read on for solutions to specific problems.
â Reset iPod shuffle by turning it off, waiting five seconds, and then turning it back on
â Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod shuffle in iTunes.
â Restart your computer, and make sure you have the latest software updates
â Reinstall iTunes software from the latest version on the web.
â Restore iPod shuffle. See “Updating and Restoring iPod shuffle Software” on
First ipod cables only work on ipod.
Second if you bent the connections (even just one) so that it is not connecting inside your ipod you will need to get that fixed.
You should reboot your computer and try again first though.
