Hi

You need to connect your camera to your computer via DV cable (firewire) in order to transfer video to the computer. If you are connected via USB cable you can only transfer still pictures.

The computer will only recognise video transfer when a DV cable is connected to its firewire port.

Hope this helps - if so please remember to rate my answer. If your issue is still not resolved please let me know via a comment.

    Hi

Firewire is still the primary transfer mechanism for most cameras sending video to a computer. Most modern computers will be equipped with at least one firewire port or to give it its technical name IEEE 1394 interface or DV (Digital Video) or i-link is another name. You would need to check your computers spec to see if it has this port but as I say if the computer is fairly recent it should have it.

The cable looks similar to a USB cable but has different size sockets to USB. You can purchase these cables at any computer store and the price is similar to a USB cable.

Firewire is the primary transfer mechanism for almost all high end professional audio and video equipment and although some of the newer video cameras are now switching back to USB the firewire interface is still the most common approach for video transfer.

The DV in and out transfer on your camera is by firewire. There is no other way to transfer video to the computer. The connector is located beside the USB port on the camera.

Hope this helps. Please do rate my answer. Many Thanks.

As I understand it your computer needs either a firewire port or a 4 or 6 pin DV port depending on what type of connector is on the computer end of the DV cable you purchased.

Transfer movie from mini tape to computer - JVC.....well, hello i found that people have the same problem i do i;ve got this JVC digital camera GR-D770U...and unfirtunately i don't have a software disc...

You can download user manual in PDF format from this link:
http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/JVC/GR-D770U-_E
but that's not a point. The point is that you can use any video editing software (with no driver), that accepts capture mode starting from standard Windows Movie Maker for beginners to CyberLink PowerDirector, Ulead DVD MovieFactory or similar. This can be made by plugging your camcorder to PC via USB or FireWire (iLink, IEEE1394). Of course you can record to Digital Video Unit Equipment (DVD recorder) if you have one. Good luck!

Upload video

The USB on your camcorder is for downloading still pictures only. If you want to transfer video to your computer you need to hook up a firewire cable, which is to the right of the USB connection. Firewire is also known as 1394 connection.

Hope it helps.
