Question about Canon PowerShot A640 Digital Camera
In some cases this is a problem associated wit the Camera Window software. Did you made an upgrade to such software? If so, roll back to previuos version. If not, try uninstalling all Canon software. Reboot the system and reinstall the software package that came with your camera. Reboot the system.
If the problem still there, check on the control Panel. When you connect your camera. In the SCANNERS and CAMERAS your A640 should be listed. If so, check the properties (right click), see the events tab and ensure that when connected the camera the radio button "start this program" is marked and the "Canon Camera Window" is selected.
Also, perform the "Test Camera" in the General tab.
Your Camera, once connected, should be listed under the PC's Device Manager in Imaging Devices.
If the problems still there, maybe you got a trouble on your PC.

Why not remove the card and use a card reader? Simpler and not dependant on the battery or power-supply of the camera...
