Hello,
Depending on what o/s is on your pc, you may find better luck by installing the new drivers first and then the CD-ROM itself.

Good Luck

I was looking for step-by-step install guide to putting new hard drive and loading Windows XP on my Dell Inspiron E1505?? I purchased a WD 320GB SATA hard drive to replace my dead 80gb hard drive....Dell...

All you've got to do is:

1) Insert the new hard drive.
2) Press the F8 key as the laptop boots. This will take you into the BIOS.
3) Locate the disk drive priority setting in the bios.
4) Set Priority 1 to your CD/DVD drive and priority 2 to the 320GB hard drive.
5) Save settings and exit the BIOS. This should reboot your laptop.
6) Insert the Windows XP CD.
7) It should not start the setup as it recognises the CD.
8) I will recommend that you format the drive before you install, go along with the format (make sure it does a full format).
9) After the format it will reboot your system.
10) You will be prompted with a message like "Press any key to boot form CD", DON'T press anything otherwise it will start all over again.
11) Now it should start the install. Follow the on-screen instructions.

When I turn on my Laptop the Dell Inspirer E1505 it says A Disk Read error occured Press Ctrl + Alt + Dell to restart then i restarted the computer i pressed F2 and the BIOS setting came up i went to...

It's asking you for a password to access the BIOS. You or someone entered a password to access the BOIS (setup screen). The original problem you're having is "Disk Read Error". If you have the CD's that came with your laptop, look for a Resource CD or any that has "Utilities and Diagnostics" under "Contents". This is a CD that you can boot from. Insert the CD and select <F12> on power on. Select boot from CD/DVD disk. If the laptop boots then your laptop is working but your hard disk drive or OS (Operating system software) is the problem.

I dont know where to out my 2gb sandisk microchip into my dell inspiration laptop. Where should i put it in?

You cannot place it directly into the inspiron. You need to use a another device to connect it. I am assuming the micro card is for a phone or camera - connect the device to the usb port and the computer will recognise the micro card as a new drive so it can be accessed using explorer.
On some smart phones you have to tell the phone to mount the SD card as a disk drive - the smart phone will ask you is you want to do this,

The CD Drive does not work all of the time.

Nate, How old is your laptop? From what I can find, it looks like the Optarc 5540 is indeed a DVD±R/RW/R-DL burner. It should read anything you put in. If you have the driver, I might try to reinstall that first, but if this is a fairly new system (Under warranty) I would definitely pursue a replacement.

Cd/dvd driver

Does the drive it self come up.
Lightly push on the side of the drive tray.
Works for me.
To re-install the drive.
1. Turn off the laptop.
2. Press the power button quickly then relese as this tells the laptop to detect the drives.

Installing the sims 2 double deluxe

Does your laptop have a DVD drive? It is likely that the Sims Double Deluxe disk you have is a DVD ROM and not a CD ROM.
If this is not the case, try clicking My Computer and selecting the CD drive to see if the computer recognises the disk at all. Run setup.exe if it does.
