Question about Computers & Internet

I have the t42p thinkpad, i have been trying to get the ethernet software to load, no matter what i do it will not load i looked at the download files, they are dll's and there is no execute command so the only way they can see them is in the device manager box and update software on the network tab. i have tried this 25 times and it will not activate nor read that file.

After several attempts to make the device manager load this program as it is a dll program and not executable i had to erase the os and
reformat and start over. then it finally accepted the software.

The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

IBM thinkpad t42 with a t42p screen has weird lines all over the screen. I need to be able to fix this! Please.

Would like to ask.......
Did you state ThinkPad T42p LCD screen in a ThinkPad T42?

Same type?
XGA to XGA, or SXGA to SXGA, or UXGA to UXGA?

Did you use the screen Inverter out of the T42p?
An LCD screen, and a screen Inverter are a Matched unit.
Post back in a Comment.

Moving on..........

Problem can be;
1) Graphics chipset
2) Video Cable
3) Screen Inverter
4) LCD screen

I will detail a diagnostic flowchart, along with my input; after the question above has been answered.

No use detailing it out if;

One: YOU are the one who replaced the LCD screen.
You already know the disassembly procedures, and this will greatly shorten the flowchart I would have stated.

Two: It\'s the wrong LCD screen, or the wrong screen Inverter is being used.

Awaiting reply, please post in a Comment.

Unit will not start only gives 3 Beeps

Seems like it could be a memory problem, replacing the RAM or checking to the if it seated correctly would be the best thing to do.
If you have an AMIBIOS.

  • Three beeps means there has been a base memory read/write test error. Replacing the RAM usually solves this AMI beep code.
If you have AwardBIOS.
  • Any other beep code pattern you hear means that there has been some kind of memory problem. Replacing your RAM is the most you'll need to do to fix this problem.

I have a thinkpad t42 where all the drivers for wirless, ethernet etc. are gone. They all have yellow question marks. Since I cant get on the internet to get them i have been downloading onto cd then...

You pretty much just need to copy over either the Wireless drivers or the ethernet drivers so that you can have basic access to the internet. Once you do, I'd suggest running the Windows Update and THEN downloading and installing whatever drivers are missing.

It's a bit frustrating but once you get everything ship shape, you'll be right as rain.

Thinkpad T42P could not show "8;i ;k" keys

If replacing keyboard did not solve problem, then problem could be:
1. Faulty keyboard controller - this means faulty motherboard.
2. Broken pins or dry joints on connector that connects to keyboard.

0 preload disk space

Boot up the laptop then click on My Computer then right click on the C Drive then click on Disk Cleanup. This will get rid of
unnecessary files, deleted files in the Recycle bin etc and free up diskspace. (tick all the boxes to remove the old files).
This process will take a long time (don't stop it) especially if you have not done this before.
