It sounds like the dial is broken. You can call your local appliance store and order the part for cheap. Installation is easy enough to do yourself if you would like. Just make sure the power is disconnected.

Most of these front load wahers have a manual door release pull, that can be accessed by removing the bottom cover and reaching up by the door lock assembly to pull it. Try this. The problem sounds like a faulty or jammed door lock assembly. These can be replaced with a little know how and some mechanical ability. Remember to unplug it before working on it.

I have a Whirlpool Duet Sport (model #WFW8400TW03) that shuts down when I press start. There are no error codes and the last cycle ran with no issues. The door is shut and seems secure. I can find nothing...

I had the same problem. My control lock was on without the status light on. To unlock the controls I Selected and held END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for at least 3 seconds. The lock/unlock control status light never indicated the locked position, yet my washer now works. NOTE: Select and hold END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds to toggle between lock and unlock.

Mod LEQ9558KQ1 won't heat at all. will tumble and otherwise run. Have multimetered ht element, 3 thermo's, power cord, 220 outlet, thermal fuse, and temperature switch. All check good (believe I checked...

After also checking the main selection switch (for perma press, normal, timed, etc.), which was also good, I finally started checking wiring. Found a wire burned in two. It was the red wire coming off the connections where the power cord connects to the dryer. Cut it, spliced it, put it all back together and it's now working as it should.

If you can hear/see the motor running, but the drum does not spin, you probably have a broken or loose dryer belt. You can easily determine this by opening the top panel and looking at the belt. Just lift the lint sheet cover on the top of the dryer and and pull out the screen. With the cover still open, locate and remove the two screws. Once the screws are removed, the top panel will lift up. The belt should be seen wrapped around the drum. If the belt has broken or has slipped off the idler pulley, it may be fitting loosely around the drum, or lying on the cabinet bottom. If so, the following instructions explain how to access the interior and replace or reinstall the belt. Replacing the dryer belt on this model dryer involves the following steps:

1. UNPLUG the dryer and remove the lint screen.
2. With the lint screen door open, remove the two screws and lift the top panel.
3. Unplug the door switch conector plug and any ground wire that may be installed on the casing.
4. Locate the two screws that hold the front panel in place. There should be one screw on each side in the cabinet interior.
5. With the door shut, lean against the front panel and remove the two screws that hold it in place. Once the screws are removed, grasp the front panel at the top center and lift straight up to remove.

You should now have complete access to the dryer interior. If the belt is broken, this may cause the idler pulley to come loose. This is normal with no tension on the pulley to hold it in place. To install a new belt and re-install the pulley, follow these steps:

1. Loop the drive belt around the dryer drum with the groove side facing the drum. (Try to line the belt up with the wear marks already on the drum from the previous belt).

2. With the tensioner in your left hand, insert the clip end of the idler pulley into the grooves on the dryer bottom casing with the idler wheel pointing to your left. (The grooves are directly in front of the drive motor.)

3. While holding the tensioner in place, insert the belt UNDER the wheel with your right hand and pull it up and over the drive motor pulley.

If this does not explain it well enough, you can also verify by going to repairclinic.com. Click on the Repair Help link and look for the "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link under the Special Features section on the next page. Look for Whirlpool and refer to diagram H.

Once you have the belt installed, re-install the dryer front panel by holding it as you did previously. Line up the holes on the inside bottom edge of the front panel with the small mounting cleats on the front edge of the side panels. This can be done by yourself, but an assist may make it easier. Once you have the front panel in place, lean against it to hold it in place and install the mounting screws. NOTE: Don't forget to reconnect the grounding wire and door switch connector plug. Without the door switch connected, the dryer will not run. Lower the top panel back in place and reinstall the two screws.

NOTE: Placing a piece of duct tape over the dryer vent chute will help safeguard against dropping anything down in the blower fan assembly. If you drop any screws down the chute, you will need to remove the dryer back panel to retrieve them.

If you still have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you. PS Appliancepartspros.com has some excellent exploded view diagrams of your dryer, along with parts listings that you cna use for reference as well.

Whirlpool dryer power but won't run

A thermostat will not keep a dryer from running, but a broken belt will. If the model number you have this listed under is correct, you can access the dryer interior by lifting the lint screen door on top of the dryer and removing the two screws. With the screws removed, the dryer top will lift up. The belt should easily be seen wrapped around the dryer drum. If you pull on it, the belt should not have any play in it. If the belt is broken, it needs to be replaced. If the belt is loose, it probably has come off the belt tension idler pulley and needs to be reinstalled. Another common problem is a blown Thermal Fuse. All the heating circuits this model dryer are easily accessible from the back of the dryer. All you have to do is unplug the dyer and remove the back panel. Look for the Thermal Fuse. This will be a small plastic looking component with two wires attached to it. Its mounted on the blower fan housing on the left hand side of the dryer (as facing from the rear). Unplug the wires from the Thermal Fuse and take a resistance reading across the terminals. If good, it will read 0 ohms. If bad, you must replace it.

This component will blow in an overheat/over-current condition and must be replaced. Usually when this component fails, it fails for a reason. Check your blower fan housing for any clogs or obstructions that may be causing the dryer to run hot.

For clarification, refer to appliancepartspros.com for exploded view daigrams of your dryer. Just type in your model number and look under Section 3. The Thermal Fuse is listed as item 7.

Something other things to consider:

1. Does the dryer have multiple breakers? An electric dryer runs on 220VAC. Some home use two 110VAC breakers instead of one 220 breaker. Double check your power distribution and make sure you have the breaker(s) set properly.

2. Have you checked the voltage at the wall receptacle? Unplug the dryer and take a voltage reading across the two hot (left and right slots) terminals. If good, you should read 220-240VAC.

3. Have you verified the power cord is good? You can check the power cord by leaving the dryer unplugged and remove the back panel where the power cord is installed on the back of the dryer. This is called the terminal block. You can either perform continuity checks between the prongs on the cord to the terminals at the terminal block, or you can plug the cord back in and take a voltage reading across the RED and BLACK wires at the terminal block.

If good, you should read the same 220-240VAC that you read at the wall receptacle.

If continuity is good you will read 0 ohms resistance from the end of the power cord to the terminal block.

4. Have you verified the door switch? When you open the door is the drum light on? With the dryer plugged in, you should be able to open the dryer door and see the light on insode the drum. Toggling the door switch with your finger, this light should go out if the switch is making contact. If the switch is defective, the dryer will not run.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful. NOTE: The start switch popping back out when you open the door, I would assume to be normal. The dryer is supposed to shut off when the door opens.

Dryer will not start

Check the door switch. A little lever sticking down through top right of door opening. If it is not there you will need new door switch(sometimes the little lever breaks off). If it is there and does not click when you press it in you need a new door switch. if it clicks and clicks when you close the door then you have a bad thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is found by taking the back of the dryer off. The fuse is an oblong white plastic piece with 2 wires attached.

Door switch part number 3406107
Thermal fuse part number 3392519
