SOURCE: cannot get the printer to accept the new HP black cartridge
On my officejet 5510, I decided that the printer was toast and decided to throw it out and buy a new one. After making that decision, I decided to pound on top of it it a few times. Guess what??? You guessed it.....it reset itself and started back working. That was about 6 weeks ago and I haven't had a problem since. I have since turned it off and on many times, and it works like a charm. GO FIGURE!! (I only recommend this to those who have given up and are planning to trash it anyway).
SOURCE: Error Code
That's absolutely correct. The exact error message on the printer says "Ink System Failure. Error 0xc05d0281."You need a new printer for that kind of error. Actually there 3 different errors that you may encounter when installing brand new ink cartridges. The error that starts with 0xc18 and 0xc19, we can still recover the printer for that but only once. If the T/S is already done and was not able to resolve the problem, then that's the time that the printer needs to be replaced. For error 0xc05, ther only solution is to replace the printer. It means that the ink system has already been failed and cannot be recovered.

Try first removing all paper from paper trays and then reinserting cartridge, etc.
SOURCE: The printer doesn't recognize the new original HP color cartridge
There is a small spring that holds the ink cartridge in the ink holder. You will see it stick out from the right hand side of the ink holder where the ink cartridge slides in. If that spring isn't being held to the ink holder by two plastic tabs, (I.E. the plastic tabs are broken) the printer will never recognize the cartridge. If the printer is still under warranty I would contact HP or an authorized repair center for HP. Both the black and color ink holder has this spring. I know of no way to repair this kind of breakage.
