Hi,

If you are using a user or guest account then you can not change network or system configuration unless you have an administrative rights.

Check your user from Control Panel. If you have Administrator account then Use it, if not, try this;

Reboot your system, Press F8, from Boot menu select Safe Mode, after loading windows, you might ask for log-in, try your Administrator Account. If you can not access Administrator Account then you have to install a fresh copy of the windows.

Best of Luck,

Regards;
Hassan

Simply plug your laptop into the DSL modem using a network cable. That's it. The network cable looks like a phone cable but with a larger plug on the end. This cable only fits into one jack on the back of your laptop, the larger of the two phone-looking jacks (it is the fourth jack from the left, after the USB, S-Video, and Modem/Phone jacks respectively).

Network cables are usually blue or red and you should have been supplied one when you got DSL.

This setup assumes the laptop is your only computer. If this is not the case the setup may be a bit more complicated.

I have a Dell Latitude D600. I can connect to the internet if my computer is plugged directly into my modem. When I disconnect from the modem and try to access the internet using wireless, I can not...

Your computer may be picking up the wireless networks in your area including yours but you still require to configure your computer to the router for which you will require to go through the manual which came along with the router/modem. If you are a computer savy man you can do it yourself otherwise you will require services of technical person.

Getting online

The phone jack on your laptop is used for Dial-up only, i.e.… AOL, EarthLink, etc….
If you’re trying to connect to the internet via Verizon DSL, then you need to connect to a DSL modem just like your PC is. On your laptop you’ll find another jack similar to a phone jack but a little bit wider. This is a 10/100 Base T connection used for Broadband or Hi-speed internet that you will use to connect to your DSL. If you want, you can take the internet cable from the back of your PC and try plugging it in to your laptop. You will need to power OFF and ON the DSL modem you that it will search for the IP (internet protocol) address of your laptop.
Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please contact me.

Okay so if I understand your question....your desktop has DSL and you want to connect your laptop to the same DSL connection? If that is the case then what you need is a router. A router will share the DSL connection between the desktop and the laptop. A wireless router will allow your laptop to surf wirelessly if it has a wireless adapter or you can plug it into the ethernet port on the laptop. You can purchase one here. The instructions are pretty simple and straightforward and should be included with the router.

the excellent connection refers to the wireless signal and not the internet connection, so go to tools on your web browser, internet options, then delete all temp files, history and cookies, close your browser down and open it up again and see if it connects, if not keep clicking refresh.

Try different sites incase there is a fault on the site you are trying to browse.
