Question about Garden

1 Answer

Need to replace drive belt on Lawn Chief, 42'' cut with 2 blades.

I cannot find the manual for this mower & do not know where the model number is located. Any help on finding the number, getting a manual, and/or re-installing the belt will be appreciated.

You may not need to have that information. Your lawnmower sales and service guy shoulod be able to provide a belt and even an exploded diagram of how to assemble it. At the very least if you transport the mower onb a traikler to their shop they can probably fit it on site for you. Tyat way you can also have the belt part number texta'd on the chassis for next time

Sounds like you had to change the belt because their is too much resistance in the shafts that the blades are attached to. This may be from grass. Anyway, that is where I would check, to make sure everything turns freely when not connected to the belt .

That model number des not show up as a good number on the http://www.searspartsdirect.com site. Are you sure you have the belts on correctly? If it has 2 belts on the deck & 1 is not installed correctly they work against each other. Safely make sure that each blade will turn by hand. did you take the blades off? If they are too long by just a fraction, they will hit ach other, but that usually makes quiet a noise. Get your book out & systematically go over everything you touched or changed. It sounds like something really simple you have overlooked. you can go to http://www.searspartsdirect.com & enter a good model number & view all of the parts diagrams. Sometimes they are a big help, & at other times they just confuse you more:). Let me know what you find!!

Craftsman 42" riding lawn mower blade free spinning but wont cut

It sounds to me that you need a new mower deck drive belt, or your blades need sharpening. If the blade edges are rounded, they won't cut butter... Also, when mower is off, check mower deck drive pulleys to make sure you don't have any that are locked up or are dragging. You can check this by pulling the belt away from pulley and spinning the pulley by hand. MOWER MUST BE OFF before attempting any of these checks. You would be surprised how many people would try this with the mower running.
Hope this helps
