Question about Apple iBook Mac Notebook

Track pad and keyboard behave erractic

On my ibook g4 the keyboard at times types the following on its own 2wsx'2wsx' and the f2 key freezes, but after tapping on the track pad roughly the actions stop for a limited time and then repeat. This started happening after installing 10.5.7 updates. before that everything worked fine. Any clues as to what the issue might be.

I've never seen that before but it sounds like either a KB driver issue or a KB connection issue. with the exception of the ' key the others are all in a line and may well use the same piece of digital string underneath. Do a safe boot (hold down the shift key while the machine starts up) and see if it still happens.
Can't offer any other advice though.

Water spilled onto ibook g4. Harddisk works fine but some keys on keyboard does not work. Any solutions please?

keep it in a warm dry place for a day.if that doesn't help i would assume your keyboard is broken and somebody has to open the ibook and replace the part. If you want to pay to have somebody do it for you there is a third party ibook Repair Service. However, if you want to do it yourself, the part is available on ebay. Here's an ibook Repair guide. Maybe a tech savy friend can do it for you.

Hi, I have an Ibook G4 and i have a problem with my backlighting, it is very dim hardly visable. Is there any free solutions ?

F1 and F2 on the keyboard make the backlight go dim or get brighter. connect an external display to the computer if the issue doesn't show up on the external display it's the LCD inverter board that will need to be replaced.

My G4 iBook screen goes dark shortly after I power-up, even If I hit the F2 key, the screen remains dark.

Hi,
Got the same problem with my ibook G4.
I have research on how to fix it, and found out that most model of G4 has the same problem.
I soon found out the main problem and the solution, it would require some skill in soldering and dis assembling the whole laptop.
Go to this site and hope it will help you just it like it helps me a lot!

G4 iBook screen fades to black on start-up

It sounds like that key is sticking.

You might want to look on eBay for a replacement keyboard. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to unplug the old keyboard and plug in the new. Opening the iBooks is a challenge, but maybe the keyboard can be plugged in through the hole in the top. Not sure.

Good luck!

Recently replaced logic board and airport card on ibook g4. reinstalled Tiger and now track pad doesn't work. how do i navigate keyboard to get track pad to work

did you change the logic board by yourself?
I'm afraid that the trackpad-connector is not properly installed on the logicboard...
then it is not a software issue.. ibook trackpad AppleNova Forums
- but you can use separate mouse on USB:

Apple iBook G4 Track Pad (Mouse) not funtioning

I think the first thing you should do is make all updates. I know that in some versions of the iBook G4, the trackpad does not work after installing OS X 10.4 (Tiger) before you do the updates. Update your OS X first. secondly, does the button work? Does the trackpad show up in the System Preferences menu? (under keyboard and mouse). It's very unlikely that the trackpad came unhooked unless someone has opened up your computer. If they have, there is a really good chance that they didn't plug it back in, because it's a hassle and easy to forget.

I have a white macintosh g4 laptop that freezes after 15 minutes.

Open System Preferences:
Click on the Lightbulb Icon entitled "Energy Saver"

Adjust the preferences for each of the two options:
Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for:
1min 15min 1hr 3hrs Never
Put the display to sleep when it is inactive for:
1min 15min 1hr 3hrs Never

Set these for Power Adaptor and Battery separately.

Ibook g4 freezes and airport problem

have you gone into airport utility?
are you using an airport extreme? if so, reset it.
then delete the current wireless network, and try setting up a new one in airport utility.

When i turn on my mac ibook g4 the screen gets light then suddenly goes dark and seems to boot up but the screen is black but i can faintly see the desktop icons. What should it do?? thanks

your backligny is probably off. try "increaseing the brightness" on your screen. on macs that should probably be one of the F-keys at the top of your keyboard. I think brighter is F2 or Fn + F2 or somethinglike that. just find the symbol. Do this while your laptop is plugged in to make sure it's not just dimming you screen to save battery.

Ibook g4 - screen will not appear

Try adjusting the monitor brightness (F2). If you have an extra monitor, try connecting the mini VGA to see if it outputs a signal extenally. The videocard is onboard the logicboard....so, that is one way to process of eliminate.

Also, if you start the machine after the apple chime, hold down the OPTION key. This will prompt you as to which bootable volume to boot from. What this does though, is gives the monitor a signal before the operating system loads.....this usually eliminates the issue being software, but very seldom is no display a software issue.....

Hope this helps.
