How can I get into my Kindle to start using it?

No you only deregister if you no longer have it. Just register the new one to start using it. I have a paperwhite and a fire tablet. There is an option to sync the books so you can use either one.

Leave the kindle charging over night. The yellow light will turn green when fully charged. Or watch the lights and time when the green light comes on.Make sure you have the kindle wifi off when not in use as the battery uses memory when it is on.

Once you have the machine running to read anything, the Kindle user manual is a pre-installed eBook on the device and also available for free via the Kindle storefront in case the previous owner deleted it.

Here are the shortcuts:

1. Shift+Sym – start and to stop TTS (Text To Speech or Read To Me in Kindle 2). You have to keep Shift pressed down and then press Sym.
2. While TTS (Text To Speech or Read To Me in Kindle 2) is on – Use Shift button to Pause or Resume it. Note: this might be Space (spacebar).
3. While TTS (Text To Speech or Read To Me in Kindle 2) is on – you can switch between male and female voices, and change voice speed by using Alt + Aa keys and then using the 5 way controller.
4. To start TTS (Text To Speech or Read To Me in Kindle 2) at a particular place on a page, move the cursor to the spot BEFORE starting TTS.
