Understand the process first and then go for an example:
How to do?
1. Make a list of multiples for each number
2. Continue your list until at least two multiples are common to all lists
3. Identify the common multiples

First break each number down into its smallest factor eg 26 = 13 x 2. Neither of these can be further broken down, so the smallest factors are 13 and 2. However 24 = 6 x 4 and each of these can be further factorised, or broken down, into 3 x 2 and 2 x 2. So the smallest factors are 3 and 2.

Do this with each number you are dealing with, Circle the factors which are common to both the original numbers, and chose the largest of these. It is the largest common factor or greatest common multiple.

-54k^2+3k

-54k^2+3k I assume that you want to factor this completely.
I do it one component at a time.
What is the biggest common factor of -54 and 3. I use a trick of adding the digits of the number. If 3 and/or 9 go into that number evenly, than 3 and/or 9, respectively go into the original number. In this case, 5+4 = 9 and since 3 goes into 9 evenly, 3 goes into 54 evenly. Since the factors of 3 are 3 and 1, this must be the greatest common factor of this component.
Onto the next component, what is the greatest common factor of k^2 and k. The answer is k, because k^2 doesn't go evenly into k.
Combining the two, the greatest common factor is 3k.

Next we have to divide 3k into each term.
3k(-18k+1) or -3k(18k-1)

Good luck,

Paul

What is least common factor

Normally, we look for the greatest common factor and the least common multiple.

To find the least common factor, we have to factor both numbers and see what the least common factor is. However, we know the one set of factors for every number is itself and one. For example, 56 and 49.

The factors of 56 are 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 14, 28 and 56.
The factors of 49 are 1, 7, 49.

What is the least common factor of both numbers? 1

So the least common factor of any two numbers is 1.

Any questions, let me know.

Good luck,

Paul

How to compute fraction multiplication?

Multiply the numerators (the top numbers) and multiply the denominators (the bottom numbers).

As an example, 3/4 x 4/5 = (3 x 4)/(4 x 5) = 12/20. Now we should reduce it to lowest terms by dividing numerator and denominator by the greatest common factor. I divided the numerator and denominator by 4 and got 3/5.

Good luck.

WHAT IS A GREATEST COMMON MULTIPLE

Are you sure that is the correct term?
It is usually the greatest common divisor - the number which will divide into two numbers neither being zero, without remainder. For instance the highest common divisor of 12 and 16 is 4.

How to find G.C.F. on a TI-30xIIs calculator?

I don't think there's specific key for this but you can do it this way:

  1. Divide those 2 numbers for which you want to find gcf
  2. If you get result as decimal number press keys [2nd][PRB] to display it as fraction
  3. Also if fraction you get is in form a b/c (ex. 1 2/3) you have to convert it to form d/c (for 1 2/3 that would be 5/3)
  4. Greatest common factor is then 1st number divided by numerator (or 2nd number divided by denominator)
For example:
  • You want to find greatest common factor of 30 and 18.
  • You divide them: you should get 5/3 (after converting result to fraction of form d/c, as described in steps 2 and 3).
  • This means that 30/18=5/3=5x/3x (x is gcf here).
  • Now you know that x=30/5=18/3=6 so greatest common factor is 6.

I hope this helps :)

Where is the GCF/GCD button on my TI-85 Plus Silver Edition

There are no such buttons, You'll find the lcm (least common multiple) and gcd (greatest common divisor) functions in the MATH NUM menu. Press MATH, right-arrow, and select the desired function.

Find the greatest common factor of 14x2y4z56xy2z3

To find a common factor you need to have at least two monomials. In your question I see only one.
However, if you want to find the numerical coefficient of this monomial, you must put all the the coefficients (not exponents) to the left separated by multiplication signs then perform the operation.
Also, gather all powers of a single variable into a single power with an exponent equal to the sum of the exponents`. Do it for all the variables.
I cannot do it for you here because you expression is ambiguous. Use proper notation (a raised value for any exponent) and/or parentheses to let us know exactly what you mean to do.
