Question about Sony Xplod CD Player w/MP3 Playback CDX-GT50W

2 Answers

I bought a Sony stereo for my car about a year ago that has an iPod cable in the glove box. The head unit then controls the iPod. It has worked perfectly all this time, but today I got a "Com Error" message, followed by "NO SUPRT". When I disconnected my iPod, it had frozen on the "Xplod" screen. Now the iPod won't operate no matter what I do. Thought I could hook it up to my PC and reformat it, but it just sits there. Can you help?

Your response is not at all clear to me. Your suggestion seems to focus on the stereo in the car. The problem is with the iPod, not the car stereo. The iPod is frozen. Or am I just misunderstanding you? Are you suggesting I hook up the iPod in the car, then disconnect the power (by which I presume you mean unhooking the battery)?

So how do you pull the battery? Seems like Apple very cunningly made that difficult to do. Or do you recommend I just send it in for service?

Is your Ipod still available for warranty? Because the best thing you can do is take it to an authorized service center. Trust me, it will cost you less.

I had an Ipod that just got hanged or freezes and i cannot get it to switch into modes. There was no use to reformat it because it's system got hanged.

Disconnect the unit from power for 5 min's (both 12 volts sources, key on/accessory power and and constant keep alive memory power)) if this is a software lock up this should clear it, if it does the same thing again then you ,most likely have a hardware issue with the player and will need to get it repaired.

sorry your post lead me to think the car was the problem, remove the battery from the ipod, this will reset it, if that dosen't work go to the support web site and see if any firmware updates are available, but truthfully I suspect the ipod is defective.

How do you connect ipod to head unit?

If there is a port for an iPod cable then you just pull head unit and connect it. Most people run it out and through the glove box. If there is no port for it then you have to buy a kit.

Crutchfield .com has all that stuff and if not, go to your local car audio shop and ask them to rip you off for the parts and installation.

There is a way to do it. I had mine set up so that the iPod was detected as "ext in" and was controlled from the iPod. Unfortunately, I don't remember how I did it, and I recent battery replacement has reset this, which is why I came looking for instructions. If I remember how to do it, I'll post it here.

There is a auxiliary button on the sony cdx-m8800. Is there a way to hook up an IPOD? The stereo also has MP3 written on the inside face. Thanks

Contrary to the below Expert's testimony, the UK CDX-M880 has a REAR AUX connector that will enable you to play your iPod through your car's stereo.

You will not be able to control the ipod's interface through the radio. You will have to use the control on the iPod .

You require a Male 3.5mm extension cable like the following...

a5e60c6.jpg A 4-6 foot length is recommended, as the cable will need to be routed from behind the radio to a place your iPod can be easily manipulated.

I have a CDE-9872 and it wont pick up my ipod touch

Add Alpine's optional "Full Speed" connection cable and you'll be able to use the CDE-9872 to control your iPod. -Crutchfields website

This is compatible with first and second generation iPods touch.
fyi- if you have a mini-stereo aux in jack on the deck you can connect a ipod touch compatible mini stereo cable to the earphone jack of your ipod.

Ipod touch connector

Hello serafineb,

The Alpine Full Speed cable for the iPod supports the following versions:

Fourth generation iPod
Fifth generation iPod
iPod photo
iPod mini
iPod nano

According to their website it does not appear that Alpine currently has a cable for the iPod touch. They do, however, make a "generic" cable for most MP3 players that connects directly to the earphone jack. Although this would not allow you to control the iPod from your stereo's head unit, you should be able to connect the iPod touch via this cable to play music through your car stereo.

More information about the "generic" cable can be found here.

Best Regards,
Ken

Auxilary RCA inputs have no volume control

Your problem stems from the fact that the CDA-7892 is not equipped with an RCA aux-input jack. If you're plugged into RCA connectors at the back of the head unit, they're outputs, not inputs. The sound you hear is just feeding back through the outputs and into the head unit's amplifier. If you want to play your iPod through this head unit, you need to purchase either the auxiliary input adapter (KCA-121B) or iPod adapter (KCA-420i).

MD/CD Changer Control Options

press source button repeatedly to select "CD" or "MD" be aware that in order to connecting Ipod to a car stereo you will need to use an extension cable with 3.5 mm stereo connectors on each end to connect iPod to your car stereo system's aux input, or use a cassette adapter if your car stereo doesn't have a sound input jack. Either of these items can be purchased at stores that sell car stereo accessories. good luck!
