Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

The compressor on my goodman unit runs a few hours and shuts off. The condensing fan continues to run and once in a while you will hear a buzz but compressor won't start. If you then turn up stat and wait, unit may start or sometimes you have to wait longer for compressor to run. Readings are fine and unit is clean.

There could be excessive heat developing causing internal overload protectors to open when it has reached that temperature. This could be due to bearing or winding problems with the compressor. Another possibility is the capacitor if it is not operating correctly can cause problems with the heat or high amp draw at start up.Measure the amps on the compressor for about thirty minutes. If the amps keep rising the compressor is the problem. Check the capacitor. If it is balloned out at the top replace it, check to see the resistenance reading rises and falls when the probes are connected. Any thing different replace scott Buehler

Freezer stops working every week or two and hear loud buzzing. unplug and for few hours and starts working again

The buzzing is probably the compressor or condenser fan trying to run. When you switch it off it cools down and restarts when you switch back on. Next time it happens see if you can pinpoint the buzzing and let us know,

Goodmans troubleshooting

Hi;
You don't mention the fan. It is at the top of the condensing unit and should be running whenever the compressor is running. The water is doing the same ob the fan does, removing the heat from the refrigerant . What led you to put water on it?

My goodman unit (1994) makes the loud noise, like a buzzing noise. The unit works, the blower blows air into the house, the air is cold, but the outside fan that blows across the condenser piping isn'

you need to replace your condensing fan motor. the noise you are hearing is the compressor working against a lot of pressure because the heat is building up in you condensing unit. Prolonged operation without an operating condensing fan motor will cause your compressor to burn up, and then you will have the cost of a compressor changeout to the cost of a condensing fan motor.

Subzero 611 freezer not cooling

Could be but before that check if settings are working. Set the freezer settings to coolest and see if cools. If ok, set to desired temp.

Goodman heatpump fan runs, condenser wont start

Either the condenser fan has bad bearings, or it has a defective fan capacitor.
Turn off the breaker to the outside unit.
Spin the fan blade by hand.
If the fan blade spins easily and will spin a few revolutions with no problem the fan bearings are good.
If not, replace the fan motor due to bad bearings.
I am pretty sure you fan motor is bad because with a bad capacitor the fan motor will not get up to speed and may just sit and overheat.
I'm leaning toward a bad fan motor.

Hi. I have a Goodman air conditioner model #ck36-1b. When I turn it on the condenser turns on for about 1 minute then shuts off. The fan on it continues to run and the condenser will turn on every once and...

If the entire condenser is shutting down, it is cutting off and on by a pressure switch. Either the outdoor coil is stopped up or it is low on refrigerant.
If the compressor alone is shutting off and the fan on top keeps running you may have a run capacitor shorted. Pull the fuses, look into the electrical compartment and find what looks like a big battery. This is the capacitor. If it is "pregnant" or swollen it is shorted.

My Goodman ac unit is still running but it just feels like the fan not ac. We don't know the problem but guessing the dual Air conditioning/heat Pump (CapacitorGSC130421AC) is bad. Please advise! Thank you...

If the fan motor on the outside condensing unit is running, but the compressor is not coming on, then yes, most of the time it is just a capacitor. It could also be the compressor has a short or bad valves. If the compressor comes on in the beginning, but shuts off while the fan motor is still running, then you could have a low/high charge, and the unit trips the internal overload switch because it overheats. Hope this helps.

Goodman 075-3 fan runs but no voltage going to igniter

One thing you can checkmis the continuity through the ignitor itself if you have continutity through that there is also some safeties it has to go through but the board is where the voltage is supplied for the ignitor. I would check the high limit and the roll out before condeming the board.

Freezer and refrigerator not cooling. Makes a buzzing noise

hello sbarrry2 it sound like the motor that is running continously is the condenseer fan and the buzzing and then the click would be the compressor trying to start up and going off on overlaod. shut the unit off at the swiutch, let it cool down (3) hours possibly and then try to turn it back on. this should work. Thanks for using FixYA
