My guess is 4 tons. The 48 at the beginning of the model number could mean 48000 btus and with 12000 btus per ton that would mean 4 tons. Without a product name that's as good a guess as I can give. Good luck and hope this helps.
The BTUS are part of the model number and the Manufacturer will give you the AFUE rating or just call a local comfortmaker wholesaler listed locally. Good Luck
The 24 in your model number means 24,000 btus. There is 12 thousand btus in a ton of cooling. This makes your unit a two ton. You can buy a air handler sent up for two tons of cooling and then buy what every electric heat pack that you need. let me know. wally

this unit is a 3 1/2 unit...the 42 the model number...possible its a 89 or 97 model...this is a 42,000 btus unit...hope this helps...michael 843-384-8474..
