GCS1734 KVM with wireless KB and Mouse - GKM541R.

I am trying to use the GCS1734 KVM with the wireless KB and Mouse combo - GKM541R. The problem is, it only works on the KVM USB peripheral port -which means I loose the keyboard switch function. [Scroll Lock]x2. How can I get this to work? I tried updating the firmware, but that failed (code: 4156). Thanks in advance.

The GCS1734 has a different chipset inside the unit depending on when it was made. Some of the older chipsets will not work with the firmware IOGear has posted on the web site. I was given this link by the IOGear tech support and told to try using the firmwares in this download. These are firmware updates that are supposed to work with the older chipsets. If one firmware errors out on you then try using the other. One of these should work for you like it did for me.

the problem is that most Wireless Keyboard and Mice combos use Composite USB, the KVM however is expecting one signal on each entry port (one for mouse, and one for Keyboard).

replace yoru wireless Combo for a standard Keyboard and Mouse to make this work.

A work around would be using a MS Wireless Mouse and a different brand of Wireless Keyboard using both Wireless receivers and plug them into different ports on the KVM

I have a Trendnet TK-209 KVM switch. My keyboard and mouse (MS wireless) that worked well for a year stopped working through the switch. they work well if connected directly to each computer.

I can confirm the same problem happened with me just now. I have TrendNet USB/KVM TK-207 and was flawlessly working with Logitech K260 Wireless Mouse and Keyboard Combo, but today on both computers all I can see is the error:

.
USB Device not recognized - The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it.

I unplugged the usb wireless adapter and connected it directly to the PC - it worked like a charm again. I have tried to connect the wireless adapter to the mouse port hoping that the keyboard USB port is causing problems, but all I got was the same error. I have tried to conect a normal USB keyboard, but again the same error I get for both - the mouse and keyboard, so it is more than obvious now that the USB ports of my KVN Switch are malfunctioning. I will try to leave it for a while if it got hot somehow as it was connected for more than 6 months working perfectly fine, but if not, I am heading to the store for support/replacement.

As far as mouse is concerned all you need is PRACTICE, and there may be a compatibility issue with your keyboard or the wire you are using is not fine, coz the kvm switch is definitely ok when used with 2 systems.

Just hooked up the KVM cable and when I switch to the second computer, the mouse and keyboard do not work. Can someone help me with this?

Sounds like there's a bad connection on the second computer, may just have to plug another mouse/keyboard in.
(I sometimes use a wireless usb keyboard/mouse combo)

Hi . .. I want to use this KVM switch to connect

The GCS632U has keyboard and mouse emulation that may not work with all wireless combos. If your wireless combo is going to work the single USB connection would need to go into the keyboard port as that is the only port that will recognize the hot key switching commands. If the wireless combo still has problems then try using a USB wired keyboard to ensure the GCS632U is working correctly.

Unfortunately, this switch has a dedicated port for keyboard that listens for the keyboard keystroke. You MUST plug the keyboard into the dedicated keyboard port on the KVM switch for the hotkeys to work. I recommend putting the mouse that comes with your keyboard to the side, and using another mouse, plugged into the dedicated mouse USB port on the switch. Not the prettiest solution, but some of those mouse/keyboard combos have some funky hardware!

4-port usb kvw switch #GCS634U

The GCS634U is designed and tested to work only with a standard USB keyboard and mouse. However, most wireless keyboards and mice work with it, but they cannot guarantee any specific model or brand that would work correctly.

As you can see, this KVM switch is a bus powered device (meaning it only gets power from the USB ports of the computers). If the computer cannot provide enough power for the KVM switch to function correctly, then the wireless keyboard will be affected.

You may try using the IOGEAR GKM541RA. It's tested to work with the GCS634U. Or you may also try using a self-powered USB hub (meaning, it has it's own power adapter) and connect it in between the KVM switch and the computer. That self-powered USB hub will be the one that will add up power to the KVM switch and help it to function properly.

KVM GCS1734 with microsoft wireless mouse/keybrd 4000

The MS keyboard & mouse receiver is effectively a USB hub with two devices connected to it. So, plugging it into the keyboard socket on the KVM switch may well work, depending on how that particular switch implements USB. If it just passes things through, it should be OK. On the PC side you should only need to plug in the USB cable from the switch's keyboard port.

Manual for the Protec Bytelan KVM/4

The switches are used when cascading more than a single BYTELAN KVM. It specifies the scan rate, and which KVM unit the keyboard and mouse are connected to. For a single KVM, use the default settings. SW1 SW2 Scan Rate ---------------------- ON ON 2 seconds OFF ON 10 seconds ON OFF 20 seconds OFF OFF 40 seconds SW3 NOT USED SW4 ON For KVM unit with KB/mouse OFF For other KVM units w/o KB/mouse, If your power supply isn't adequate, it may cause your KB/mouse problem. It should be 9VDC with at least 500ma. Hope this helps.
