Why doesn't my HP 1501 Makita hammer drill work

I have a 3/8 Makita hammer drill, HP 1501. It does not work when drilling right side down, but works when it's in an upright position. I replaced the starting switch but this did not fix the problem. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ted

I'm not sure what an "sds chuck" is. On my drill, the chuck is tightened by hand, not by key. Thanks.

The problem was the cord at the base of the drill. The wires were broken, cause by constant bending. After souldering the wires, the drill works perfectly.

Thanks.

What keyless chucks will work on my makita hammer drill will a dewalt xrp chuck work on a makita

as long as the chuck is used for a hammer drill and the thread size is exact yes it will. I believe the thread is 1/2-20 and also make sure the chuck has a hole in the center for the reversing screw to keep it from loosening up. Let me know if you need more assistance. The thread size is usually stamped on the side of the chuck. Makita sometimes used a metric thread.

Makita HP 1640 hammer drill chuck loosens grip on drill while drilling

Sounds like the chuck is worn, happens frequently when used often. Here's the link to Makita, their contact info should get you some answers as to what part number is needed as well as the closest location to you for service if required. Hope this helps.

How to dismantle a makita HP electrical hammer drill, want to replace the brushes

Check out the split drawing on this page.
If your makita does not have any outside accessible brush caps, you need to dismantle it.
lay it on the side, where the side with the screws securing the to halves together is facing up.
Remove all screws (some may be hidden under labels etc.) Gently pry the halves apart, locate the brushes disconnect their leads if any, and remove. Install new brushes and make sure the move freely, and that they are springloaded when in place. Gently rotate the rotor to ensure everything is ok . Reassemble and test drill. If the brushes leaves long streaks of noticeably large sparks, something has gone wrong or the rotor was damaged in the first place, causing excessive wear.

Makita HP1640 hammer drill dual mode - 2 hours

Exchanged Makita HP1640 hammer drill for a new one. The 2nd drill did the same thing in under an hour!! Will return for refund. Instructions say the Forward/Reverse switch must be in a full up or down position for the Hammer/Rotary switch to move; well, it is and the Hammer/Rotary switch still stops at a 1/2 way point between modes. Although I can still use the drill, instruction warnings say not to because it may potentially burn out the motor. I'll have to go with a different brand this 3rd time around. It seems to be a design flaw.

I have a 18 Volt Makita drill , model # BDF 452 which I've used only 3 or 4 times . The last time I used it , I could not remove the drill bit . The chuck will not turn/loosen to release the bit . Any...

oh I hate when that happens. ushally its due to not being lined up right inside the unit. happens with my cheaper drills more so then not.

I ushally just secure the bit into my vice, and then tap the the key with a hammer to loosen the threads..

sounds like she might need a bit of oil I ushally use air compressor oil just a couple drops work for me.
