Wd40 as a lot of prropellant and thinner in it, and heat will bring those vapors out... in a few days the smell will subside, but I would recommend using something a little bit thicker... like regular motor oil. 1-2 /drops/ per wheel is plenty. Also, if you inspect the wheels closely and find that the hubs are wearing out and no longer circular, you might consider just replacing them, since oil will be a very temporary solution.

Maytag Neptune Dryer runs for about 10 minutes and then stops. If we hit the start button it will run for another 10 minutes. It heats up fine while it is running. When this started we smelled something...

Check for lint buildup on the "Hi Limit Themostat" located above the heating element. There is a thermostat kit that you can get and replace all three at once. This will make sure your dryer runs safe and up to its required operational limits. The lint buildup may cause the thermostats to get out of the tolerance. Here is a link to the thermostat kit.

HEAT PUMP

It is not normal to have a loud buzz associated with the electric heat. Try turning the heat off and running the fan only to see if the buzz continues. The buzz could be coming from any number of sources including an electrical component, the blower wheel, a loose fastener...etc.
The temporary smoke and smell could have been the dust burning off the element if the elements have not been used in a long time. However, if the elements have been running, it could be something got loose in your system and stuck between the blower and the heating elements.....for example, the wiring diagram could have come loose and worked it's way through the wheel. I've also seen owner's manuals left in the air handler that eventually got stuck in the blower. This should be inspected to ensure there is not a fire hazard.

I hope this helps and good luck. :-)

Hi, Did you get a restring kit for the element or did you get element and housing complete? If you just got the restring kit, the element might have sagged and shorted out. The squeek in the drum could be the rear bearing. You probably seen that on the drum shaft when you replaced the element. The timer problem might be, if you use the auromatic cycle, it will not advance if the element doesn't get hot.
Hope this is sme help.

Crosley CDE6500AZW heating, but drum not rolling

OK Here is what I think happened. I have heard of this before. You melted a wheel and that broke the belt. This is a simple dryer to repair and parts are not that much. Well worth fixing. Start by popping the top remove the front then get the drum out and inspect the damage.

Hotpoint dryer stop working

if its the same as my dryer CTD40 (or similar) then you have to remove the sides to check into the dryer if anything is stuck, i had a plastic burning smell once and found it was one of the runner wheels had dislodged and was scraping on the drum just re-aline the wheel if it is that, they do come off easily if the dryer has been moved, as i found out. also you will find that the sound of the dryer will change, (scrapeing noise) dont let an engineer lie to you and tell you the bearings have gone, (when i say engineer i mean when you call one out NOT Fixit engineers)
Good luck

Smell

Have you recently painted or finished any woodwork or floors? A gas dryer will smell like gas when the vapors from paint or finishes reacts with flame. It can smell like gasoline.
