Reset Admin Password on used computer.

I purchased a used PC off of Ebay that still has an active Admin account for windows XP Pro. The seller informs me that he purchased the PC at auction, and does not have a XP Pro install CD. How can I bypass / or better yet REset the Admin password to set this system up?

It is a Dell Dimension 2350 - Windows XP Pro (Certificate on the side of the case for the OS).

Re: Reset Admin Password on used computer.

If you are computer savoy at all there is a way to do it by opening the case of the dell, First you have to make sure all power is off and all your static electricity is discharged by touching the metal case of you computer. Now you have to have good vision to see or use a magnifieing glass and look inside and your board and you will see Passwrd rest there will be three pins maybe four. just make sure it says password reset or jumper, Now remove the little black plug and replace it and move it over to the pins that is not being used now, and shut case and reboot system, when system boots up and shut back down after your computer starts up normally. and change the password black plug back to its original place everything should be reset to normal. If it asked for a password just leave it blank and go from there, I sure hope that gets you up and running, Happy Holidays If it don't work let me know Thanks you

Re: Reset Admin Password on used computer.

Do you have another user account on the PC which is an Admin? If so, right-click on 'My Computer', click 'Manage'. On the left click 'Local Users and Groups' then double-click on the 'Users' folder. Right-click on the 'Administrator' account and click 'Set Password.' Ignore the warning that pops up about data loss and set the Admin password to nothing or whatever you would like.

If you don't have an Admin account, try a password reset program, just search on Google for 'Password Reset Program' and find one that may help you. If you want a specific one, I can find one for you.

Reset Admin Password on used computer.

Ok, what I am going to do is show you how to bypass or (hack) a password protected windows xp computer. first, restart your computer>press F8 before it boots up, a menu will come up>select safe mode>restart in safe mode>the admin account comes up> click on it and click yes when the small menu comes up> the computer should boot to the desktop now>select start>control panel>select user accounts>select change account and follow the prompts to creating a new account (make sure that the administrator radio button is selected) put in your new password, etc> restart your computer. You should now have administrator privileges on that system. Let me know if you have any further problems. :-)
