Question about Car Audio & Video

Have a 2001 Cavalier. Replaced factory am/fm radio with factory Cavalier cd/am/fm purchased on ebay. Exact fit, no splicing. Was aware of issues with theft deterrent program, but found info regarding unlocking the radio. I was sure I could make work so I ordered the amfmcd radio. Display shows LOC. Holding down the channel selector keys (1-3 or 2-4)as instructed, does not give any 3 number code sequence as it should. It is not an RDS radio. I have been to numerous websites to read up on this problem, all are 99% the same proceedure. I have come to the conclusion that it must be taken to a dealership to be reprogrammed with a Tech-2 scantool, unless someone has another way to do it. Thanks

Have 01 cavalier. Replaced factory am/fm with a factory am/fm/cd. Exact fit, no splicing. Knew these radios have anti theft locking feature, which I read about, and could be unlocked, except for the RDS version which is dealership only fix. Install went smooth, except display only shows LOC, no matter which selector buttons are pushed (ie 1-3 or 2-4) to pull up codes. Im pretty sure this is not an RDS unit, as I see no markings of such. 99% of all DIY suggestions to fix this are the same. I feel now that I have no other choice but to get burned by a dealership to run their Tech-2 scan tool.

You say you have been to many web sites, have you been to these?

it sounds like what u did, read the number retrieval method again to make sure you didn't make a mistake when you tried to pull the numbers, if you are sure you did it right then the dealer is the next step

No - it must be reprogrammed with the CANDI (Tech 2) using the serial # of the radio... so write it down to avoid labor charges at the dealership.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

My factory cd player in my 2001 chevy cavalier wont read cd's so i put a factory cd player from another chevy cavalier and now the screen says locked

Most radios and cd players in cars require a code to get them operating again after they have been disconnected from the battery for an extended time. Hopefully a dealer could help you locate the code for that model.

Grundig satellit 800 antenna replacement

Assuming its broken outside the unit: most aerials are very similar to fit, serving the exact same function and not worth the cost of locating the exact same one used for your model due to time, and purchase costs.
Find an old transitor radio with similar sized aerial, ie length and diameter to fit your radio. Measure it and the replacement from an old radio you or a friend does not need.
Purchase a small screwdriver to remove and refit aerial to your grundig. Small sets of screwdrivers can be bought cheaply from discount stores, ebay etc.

How do you expand the FM band on a 2001 X-type Jaguar radio

FM band expanders are available on eBay. They will expand the FM band from 76Mhz - 90Mhz range to the 88Mhz - 108Mhz frequency range. Try eBay Australia, under "FM expander".

They fit very simply inline on your antenna wire (plug inline) and there's only one wire to connect to 12V + power supply... very easy to DIY.

Plug volkswagen radio

i have a 1998 vr6 and i replaced my radio as well with a wiring harness that only fit two of the factory plugs, the third plug is for the optional cd changer that goes in the trunk, so after about 3 days of trouble shooting i noticed a BLACK wire that went to both remaining plugs, took it out of one plug and spliced it into the other wires that were remaining and it worked, assuming that your radio shows that it has power but no sound, that was my issue, now it works fine, hope this helps

Where is the antenna for 2001 chevrolet cavalier? I just purchased a FM broadcaster for my mp3 player and the cavalier radio will not pick up the signal.

it's at the rear of the car on the passenger side -- many FM broadcasters are very low power, but even so the Cavalier is a small car and shouldn't have any problems, I have one that is used in a '02 Sebring with no issues -- if you have problems with reception of normal broadcast radio, the problem may be with a connection (either at the antenna or back of the radio) also ensure that the radio is on the same frequency as is being broadcast.
