Hi,
This should be the front panel header configuration of that particular motherboard.
my motherboard out of a dell optiplex gx260 the - 41e73e6.jpg

6-8 (red) is your power sw
2-4 (green) is your power LED
1-3 (yellow) is your HDD LED
5-7 (purple) is your reset sw
black is not connected

The motherboard should go into a custom case no problem.

Regards.

Can i change out the motherboard on my dell dimension 4600 and use the one from my optiplex gx 520 in place of it.

No you can't. The Optiplex system board is a BTX type, and the Dimension uses an ATX style. The BTX board was supposed to be the new standard, with the layout changed to improve cooling air flow. Unfortunately, the I/O connectors (keyboard, etc.) aren't in the same place as on ATX boards, and you can't just drop the BTX board into the same case. (This is one of the reasons the new design didn't catch on. Seems people didn't like the idea of shelling out for a new case as well as the board.)

Can not install video driver dell optiplex gx260 windows xp sp2

moz-screenshot.pngThis has a nice board and your video board is possibly AGP type.
Find the manufacturer of the VGA board and download the appropriate driver if available for XP.
I hope this helps.

Will dell optiplex gx260 dewsktop pc support 512 mb agp

If you have the slim line version then you must buy a slimline card. Be careful ATI cards for some reason on gx260 and gx270's have issues and dont work. You can read about that on the dell support boards.

Will a dell gx280 motherboard fit into a gx260 (dell) case?

If it is a slim gx260 case, it might not. If it is the wide case, it will, but the two motherboards have different power supplies. You will need to use a gx280 power supply to power it on. However, you can use a gx270 motherboard in a gx260 case without changing the power supply.

Hope this helps!

Orange Light permanently on motherboard. PC won't start

1. motherboards for atx form factor pc's are powered even when the computer is off, particularly if you leave the computer plugged in to wall outlet... you better do not work on you computer while power cable is still connected to both, your pc and the wall outlet..

2. I found this thread that may be helpful, it may be the motherboard may have gone bad, cmos is corrupted or something may not be seated properly...it could also be one of these: Bad CPU, BAD ram, Bad power supply.. read the thread for details:

Dell optiplex gx260 mother board

It would be easier to order the cable and front panel board assy as one. easy on ebay.
I have worked on them for years and never bothered to trace them out. and dell doesn't post the pinout anywhere.
If you can't find one I can get it for you cheap.

Optiplex GX260 won't boot

I had the same issue and accidentally discovered a temporary solution. Unplug the power from the back of the machine, open the case and unplug the ATX power connection from the motherboard. With the ATX cable unplugged, plug the power cord back in. When you try to turn the computer back on the power light should turn orange and fans should be spinning, with it powered on plug the ATX connector back in. That should turn the computer off. Turn it back on and it should boot fine. You can even shutdown and restart, but when the power is unplugged you will have to go thru the same process to get it back up. This sounds crazy but it worked on mine. Good Luck!
