Question about Pentair Minimax NT Heater

1 Answer

Mini max 150 has pilot lit but will not heat

Unit is 4 years old. Pilot light is lit. Both stats will work by change in resistance. I have voltage thru the series of water sensors in the header. But the main burners will not ignite.

Could it be the pilot sensor or a stuck gas valve? Thanks

If you read Ohms across the TH circuit with the thermostat(s) turned up and the switch in the on position with the pump running you should have about 1.0 Ohms. Anything higher than 2-3 Ohms and you have too high a resistance reading and will need to find the bad part/connenction. If you have about an Ohm and the burners are not lighting be sure you have enough voltage off the generator. With no call for heat it should read around 500mV. Once you turn everything on it should drop to about 300mV.

If all these reading are correct try striking the gas line near the valve. The solenoid may be sticking. If it frees up you may get more use from it. If not, the valve needs to be replaced.

I have switched my unit over to heat and only cool air blows out. Is there a reset button I can try before calling out a repair man.

It depends on what type of unit you have if it is gas or electric. If it is gas your pilot light is probably not lit .take the top door of your furnace off look under the burner and see if there is a small flame lit . if not it is simple to light turn the knob on the gas valve to pilot then push in on the know while holding a match at the pilot head to find the pilot head trace the small aluminuim pipe from the gas valve to where it ends that will be the pilot head once the pilot lights count to 10 slowly then switch the knob to the on position and your set make sure the t-stat is in the off position before lighting the pilot light.

If it is electric heat strips or a heat pump there is nothing to do other than turn t-stat to heat and make sure all 220 breakers are in the on position.

Pilot light wont stay lit even after thermocouple replaced

Hi, If you have replaced the thermocouple and it wont stay lit, make sure that it is good and tight where it screws into the mgv. The only other possible component that could be the problem, is the pilot coil on the Gas Valve. When the thermocouple is heated when it is lit, the gases in the bulb produce a small amount of electricity called milivolts. This was taught in Pysics class many years ago. Anyway, that voltage is what keeps the pilot lit so the gas valve will energize and open on a call for heat. When the space and t-stat are satisfyed, Main gas valve shuts down and pilot stays lit on a standing piloy system. So, it will need to be replaced. Before you replace it, make sure that the pilot flame is of a nice blue at the base with a small yellow tip, and it is large enough to surround the bulb. If not, this will also make it go out. You can clean the pilot tube but use a wire to **** it as compressed air will not blow out cob webs if thats a problem. There is an ajustment for the pilot, and is marked. Check all of this before you replace the valve. You may get lucky and find a small restriction at the pilot tube opening. You can get a valve at any appliance parts sales at a reasonable price. Please let me know how you are coming along and if you still need my help. Sincerely,

Pilot light lights, yet I can't seem to get unit to light off.

it may be a weak pilot flame or a bad thermocouple you can tesst the thermocouple should be 30mv or disconnect pilot tube from valve and blow pressure thru to clear. or have a service company look at (probably the safer option)

Pilot light will stay lit Lennox G8D2-82

You may need to replace the Thermocoupler. It screws into the gas regulator and the sensor end is set in the flame of the pilot light. You can get one at any appliance parts store. The Thermocoupler simply feels the heat of the pilot light and sends a very small amount of voltage to the gas switch that opens when your thermostat calls for heat. If the pilot light isnt lit, no voltage from the sensor and no gas can be released by the regulator.
Anyone can replace one. Just find the tip that sits in the the pilot flame when you try to ignite the pilot light. Follow it down to the regulator and unscrew it. There is no gas involved. It is Ultra Low Voltage. No danger.
Be sure to turn off the power to the unit before you begin removal. Take it to the parts store along with your furnace brand and model number. If you see any identifiers on the regulator, note them and take them with. When you replace it be sure to have the sensor end up in the flame of the pilot.

Pilot light to oven went out

It could be that the safety ($150 to $250) is getting old, or grease filled. It could also mean the thermocouple ($7 to $12) is going bad, or has a bad connection. If the copper jacket of the thermocouple is blackened near the pilot, broken or cracked in anyway, it may not be working properly, as it generates a small voltage when heated, less than100th of an AAA battery, to keep your pilot lit. If the pilot orfice is clogged with dust it produces a smaller, less hot flame, which also lowers the output of the thermocouple. If I was performing the service, you would automatically get a pilot cleaning, and a thermocouple, the safety could still be bad, and confirming this is a 50/50 chance to begin with, but it is a cheaper start. Good luck, ask more if you need too, thank you, an Happy New Year.

I have a Ruud deluxe 80 plus heater. The unit is running, the pilot light is lit, still no heat.

repost with more specific . motor aka fan is running?stat is set to heat and max heat? how old? general progression is as follows. stat says its cold. signal is sent to gas valve to open. gas valve looks to see if pilot is lit via thermocouple. if pilot is lit then main valve opens and burner lights. shortly thereafter sufficient heat builds up to trip heat sensor that turns on fan and blows hot air into house.many times a tripped safty causes a default fan response. aka when you show up the fan is on 24 7 . that equals a failed safety and needs a pro tech to see why saftyfailed.

Bryant 36E93 gas package (pilot won't stay lit)

If your unit has a thermo-coupling this is most likely the issue This little sensor sends a milli-voltage to the gas valve telling it to keep sending gas for the pilot since its lit and all is good. They wear out and the gas valve thinks the flame has gone out (whick is hasnt) and kills the gas flow.
