There are two lines (fuel) that run to the carb. and the primer button, one is smaller than the other. the larger line is fitted onto the larger nipple off the carb. and runs to the larger nipple on the back side of the primer button. Repeat the process for the smaller line.

How to replace fuel filter

Step by Step Guide to Replace a Fuel Filter -
Step by step guide on how to replace an automotive fuel filter, through appearances may vary, the process is similar most vehicles.
Tools and Supplies Needed -
Fuel line release tool
Replacement fuel filter
Sockets
Screwdriver set
Protective gloves and eyewear
Fluid catch basin
Before beginning, place the vehicle on level ground, in a park with the emergency brake on.
Step 1 - Locate fuel filter of the system which is either under the car or hood.
Step 2 - Next, a fuel line release tool is needed to remove the line from the fuel filter.
Step 3 - Take the tool and install it on the fuel line between the filter and the fuel line.
Step 4 - After the fuel line is in place push the tool inward to release the fuel line.
Step 5 - Once the fuel line removal tool has been moved into the fitting, pull the fuel line away from the filter. A small amount of fuel will leak when the line is removed.
Remove fuel lines and install the new fuel filter (most fuel filters have a directional arrow which needs to be observed), re-mount the new filter. When trying to start the engine for the first time, it might take a few tries before the engine will start because the new fuel filter is empty as well as the line.

Car not starting

The below will only be relevant if the engine ran properly before you changed the fuel line, so making an assumption on that. Not sure what you mean by "won't start fully". After replacing a fuel line, it could take a while for all the air to be purged from the fuel line. If this means the engine will fire, but stumbles and misses, and you are sure you have purged all the air from the fuel line, then you may have introduced contamination into the fuel system when you changed the fuel lines. If there is a fuel filter downstream of where you replaced the fuel lines, try replacing the fuel filter. If there is no filter downstream of the replaced fuel line, then the fuel injector could have caught the contamination. That scenario will be very time consuming to fix...R&R fuel injectors.

Important: There is no service interval for in-line fuel filter replacement. Only replace the in-line fuel filter if it is restricted. 1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the 2. Raise the vehicle. 3. Remove the fuel feed quick-connect fitting (4) at the inlet of the in-line fuel filter (3). 4. Remove the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-line fuel filter (3). 5. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container. 6. Inspect the lines for cuts, swelling, cracks, and distortion. Replace the lines as required. 7. Inspect the O-ring on fuel filter outlet pipe for cracks or damage. Replace the O-ring as required. 8. Inspect the fuel vent pipe (2). 9. Inspect the fuel return pipe quick connect fitting (1).

I have a 95 olds 88. i smelled fuel when i drove it so i checked the fuel filter and it was wet. i replaced that and then found there are (2) steel lines next to the fuel filter and one of them is leaking....

The other steel lines beside the filtered line are also fuel system related. One is a fuel return line the other is the EVAP line or vent line from charcoal canister (as most call it) to fuel tank. They can be replaced with new lines available at local parts stores.

Where is a 1989 nissan z24 4 wheel drive fuel regulator located? starter went bad, replaced it, fuel line had a leak, replaced it, fuel pump wont push fuel through it, bought a new one and now the truck...

Fuel reg. is connected to the fuel rail where the return line is connected, my thoughts are you mentioned air in your lines.. crack open fuel lines and run fuel pump to release air from lines. Pump then should prime all lines must be primed turn engine over to release air ( No Smoking) then tighten lines. fuel rail might have valve, (looks like tire valve) if so it is recommended that air is relieved at air valve

Replaced the fuel pump in 1988 ford f250 and the engine still seems to not be getting fuel

follow fuel lines from gas tank to engine are any lines crushed. next replace fuel filter. check to be sure fuel filter is installed in right direction. arrow on fuel filter should point toward engine. double check that fuel lines are connected properly, some fuel pumps have three fuel lines one for pressure , one for return and one vent line.last possible bad fuel pump from factory

Should I leave a small peice of fuel line in the gas tank ?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

Ok.. We need your help here. I understand your going to replace a fuel line. Depending on what make and model your doing the fuel line replacement on the procedures are different. Some connect to the tank outlet. Some connect to the fuel tank screen pick up
others connect to a fuel shut off valve. They all end at the carburetor.

If you do a like part replacement the only thing you have to be concerned with is that it does not leak after you install the new line. What is most important is that you make sure to clamp both connecting ends of the new line. Fuel lines rapidly get hard and will leak causing the possibility of a fire during use / personal injury. I have repaired numerous BURNED units that early in the mowing season the owner had replaced the fuel line and by July or August it caught fire because they did not install the clamps or the right clamp when they replaced the fuel line. It isn't a difficult task.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Kelly

(If you need more details I need a make and Model number to be of any further assistance to you.)
