SOURCE: compressor runs hot and won't build pressure

THE COPPER LINE IS SUPPOSED TO GET HOT, SCALDING HOT ACTUALLY. THE MOST COMMON REASON FOR COMPRESSORS NOT BUILDING PRESSURE IS CLOGGED AIR FILTER OR THE VALVES IN THE HEAD ARE BROKEN OR NOT OPENING AND CLOSING CORRECTLY. YOU MAY POSSIBLY HAVE A BAD AIR LEAK DOWNSTREAM BUT YOU CAN CLOSE THE DISCHARGE VALVE ON THE TANK TO ELIMINATE THAT PROBLEM. HOPE THIS HELPS OR GET YOU STARTED.

SOURCE: Campbell Hausfeld Air Compressor won't start

The compressor starting problem is common to most of the small portable compressors. Poor design and undersized components are to blame. If you have one of these units i suggest looking into a product called the Smart Start by Conrader Valves. It is interchangeable with the standard air filters and allows the compressor to start without fail. check it out- www.conrader.com.

I own a Campbell Hausfeld model WL650800AJ compressor, the problem is that the compressor will not pressurize over about 85 psi..where would be the best place to start troubleshooting?..BTW, there is

The usual problem with oil-less type compressor is the Teflon compression ring and cylinder will fail causing the problem that you describe. Easy to check. With cover removed, turn the pump until the piston is all the way up. With good light, check the condition of the cylinder near the top. If the cylinder looks scratched, air is leaking past cylinder and ring and pressure will not build up enough to reach cut-out. If cylinder looks smooth, then problem is head valve reeds or head gaskets. Indication of bad reeds or head gasket blown, is extremely hot head during fill cycle. Good luck

Piston ring for campbell WL506206AI

Most parts lists only show the motor/pump assy (WL373000AJ) for your compressor. Campbell-Hausfeld does however have a breakdown of the motor assy and shows the piston/cylinder assy (WL210300SJ) being available for your compressor. It would be available from any C-H repair center or online at sites like eReplacementparts.com. That is the only way the piston, piston ring and cylinder parts are available, you cannot buy just the piston ring even though that's the main fail part in this assembly.

My 5 hp campbell hausfeld model hl 7017 pumps up to pressure but when it drops the motor starts but the compressor wont turn the belt just slips until pressure drops off to about 30 psi

Your tank check valve is not closing properly. It's a valve on the tank where the air line from the pump head attaches, It allows air in but not back out of the tank through the pump. When the pressure swtich turns the motor off, valve on the pressure switch lets the air out of the head so the motor can restart without any pressure in the pump head when the pressure in the tank drops. On rare occasion, you can clean the check valve out and it'll work again, more often than not you have to replace it.

My Campbell Hausfeld compressor is brand new and runs and runs without building up pressure.

It sounds like you have a leak , you need to find where it's leaking.

But first things first - you said it's brand new , I am assuming you filled the pump with the proper amount of oil before running it.

Second thing is for the first run per the book you are to open the drain plug (bottom of tank) and run it for one hour. This is to break in your pumps rings under a no load condition.

I would then let it cool off for an hour or so , re-check the oil level , close the drain and let it pump up to fill the tank. If it is not building pressure check the drain plug , the unloader valve, fill pipe (the pipe from pump to tank) and fittings for leaks.

I am sure you have placed a female quick connect on the regulator so be sure it is not leaking also.

Good luck !

My Campbell Hausfeld compressor model WL650101AJ will only pump to 80psi and will not shut off.

TAKE THE COVER OF THE TOP HAS 2 PHILLIPS SCREWS AND SNAPS OFF. THERE IS A COPPER TUBE THAT GOES BETWEEN THE COMPRESSOR HEAD AND THE CHECK VALVE TAKE THE TUBE COMPRESSION NUTS LOOSE AND REMOVE THE TUBE. CHECK THE RUBBER SEALS IF THEY ARE MISSING OR TORN YOUR COMPRESSOR LEAKS WHEN IT IS RUNNING BUT IF YOU SHUT IT OF THERE IS NO AIR IN THE PIPE SO CHECKING IT WITH IT OF WONT DETECT THE LEAK. MY COMPRESSOR WAS DOING THE SAME THING AN THIS FIXED IT.

Hose from compressor to air tank

Campbell hausfeld parts are available at www.chpower.com, however, you can use standard parts like copper tube or rubber pressure hose available at Lowes lumber or True Value Hardware. Check for cause of failure of the airline, could be from vibration due to loose motor mount or faulty check valve at tank causing back pressure. Enjoy
