This is most likely caused by either a somewhat flaky power connection inside or on the back side of your car's cigarette lighter socket, assuming that you are using your 9500i's standard coiled Smartcord, or it is caused by excessive alternator ripple (electrical noise). Usually installing the optional direct wire power cable resolves this issue. Also Escort can reprogram your 9500i to desensitize its laser circuitry, but it would be better to try the direct wire power solution first. The direct wire solution usually resolves this problem, especially if you tap power in your fuse box from one of the higher amperage fuse terminals such as 15A. Why? Because the higher amperage fuses have heavier cable leading directly back to your car's battery and tend to be more free of electrical noise.

For all these answers for fixing the laser detectors, I think that one better way to test is the way that I tested. I have a monster power supply and I used an adapter and still had laser going off. There is a reason, and I don't think that it is noise in the electrical system, necessarily. I think light is affecting the laser detector, or even possibly bluetooth devices, or something else. Desensitizing the laser detector is completely unacceptable and you may as well not even have a detector for laser if you are going to desensitize it.

Mine has started doing the same thing. I agree with wiretaps. I don't think its from noise either. Mine has been in the same vehicle for 2 years with no trouble. It's definitely something inside the detector itself. Has to be a bad connection or solder joint on a board -or someting along those lines. I wonder if Escort can fix this problem without desensitizing it?

I am having the same problem. My 9500i is usually mounted in my Tahoe with a permanent smartcord connected to the fuse box. I sell timberland and it often times goes off when I am driving on rough roads. I expected the bouncing was causing a short in a loose connection. Recently when using the radar detector in my wife's car on a smooth road with a cigarette lighter smartcord it still went off often. In both situations I had a Garmin GPS with bluetooth nearby. Could that have any bearing?

Laser alert constantly goes off

Laser is very sensitive to false alarms often set off when driving by an airport, or military base. Set your laser on City Mode and pay attention exactly where it goes off. Mine goes off constantly in the same place which is a air force base in Tucson, AZ. Unless you drive like crazy shut it off in the city although the cops like to use a hand held one in school zones. In 6 years of driving in Arizona I have had one real laser alert, and other than false alerts, real ones are far and few in between. Check when and where the unit alerts and use different sensitivity settings. One more thing, if your laser warning goes off you already have the ticket since the cops use them at close range unlike the radar bands. Hope this helps.

Everything lights up and is working, but i have no sound

Do you accidentally have it muted? The Mute button, located on PASSPORT's top panel and SmartCord. Have you turned up the volume on it? Volume Control (VOL) To increase or decrease the audio volume, press and hold the (+) or (-) volume control buttons located on the top case. A sample alert tone will be generated, along with a corresponding bar-graph on the display. Once you have reached your desired volume level, simply release the button. This level will be stored in memory. In Preferences Auto Volume is the default. This feature will increase the audio alert level automatically when the ambient noise in the vehicle is high. Good luck.

When I accelerate from either a dead stop or if I increase my speed as I'm driving, my lazar alert goes off when there's no threat.

Scroll down a few posts and a guy "blokhead" posts the solution to the "laser" problem. And then another posts some pictures. I only took out the first 3 screws, opened it up, pulled the circuit board out, and then used a tiny screwdriver to seal up the gaps around the metal box around the laser sensors. I also tightened up some of the tabs that hold the box to the board. It definitely had some little gaps that had opened up over time causing RF interference. The guy says if he ever fixes it again he may use some foil tape to completely seal it, I might do the same, but it appears to have fixed the laser issue when you press the gas, and an issue with my keyless remote lock. It would laser everytime I left it on and locked/unlocked the car.

I also have a 8500 passport that flashes laser and will go off

Does this happen in the city or does it happen when you are out in the middle of nowhere? I have seen laser detectors that are falsely triggered by various lighting devices that contain wavelengths of light similar to those used in police laser.

If this is annoying and you dont want to hear it, you can locate the receiver element that detects the laser signal and cover it up with a piece of black electrical tape. That should stop whatever is causing your problem unless there is something actually broken inside the unit.

Thanks,

Your 9500i likely has a blown speaker. Contact Escort about sending in your RD to have its speaker replaced.

Laser goes off when i am driving in area were there is no buildings or police cars also goes to k ban what is this problem

A lot of the time this is caused by a somewhat flaky power connection to the radar detector, or may be caused by excessive electrical system noise created by your car's alternator. The cigarette lighter socket itself my be the problem due to oxidation within the socket. Do you get false laser alerts when you rev your car's engine to certain RPM's? Do you get either laser or radar falses if you jiggle the radar detector's power cord or slightly move it plug in the cigarette lighter socket? If yes, to either, then installing a hardwire power kit may solve the problem. Jump over to radardetector.net and describe the problems you are having with your radar detector. Most likely they will help you to track down the source of the problem.

WD Passport (External Hardrive) Not being read by computer at all

If the usb hub is not recognizing the external drive it means you may need to install the hub drivers for your pc. Especially if you're running XP since xp finds the drivers own its own. Go to control panel, click on add hardware. Make sure the device is connected to the pc. Go to Device Manager, scroll down till you see yellow symbols or question marks. Highlight the yellow ?'s click next and Voila it will tell you what is missing. Hope this helps.

Good Luck =)

Getting false alarm from laser. Laser alarm keeps

If the laser continuously falses even with the car's ignition turned off, then your radar detector has an internal electronics problem. If your radar detector frequently or nearly continuously falses for laser while you are driving even in the middle of nowhere, then most likely the cause of the problem is either poor power and ground connections or electrical noise within your vehicle's electrical system. Jump over to radardetector.net for help in resolving these issues.

Laser warning - Multiple false alerts

Although the detector could have internal problems, it is possible that it is coming from a real source.
A route I took between home and business triggered mine along the same stretch every time I passed it and after looking a a map and comparing it with the stretch I drove, I found that the Marine airbase at Miramar California was visible (line-of-sight) between two mountains only along that stretch.

Note if the falsing happens at about the same point each time.
I just learned to ignore the laser alarm if it triggered during that 1-2 mile 'window.'

8500 Alerts for no aparent reason

Got to the bottom of my false alarming situation. I finally called Escort and discussed the behavior with the technician who immediately concluded the antenna was failling and needed a repair. $30 worth of shipping and about a week later I got my repaired unit back and it works perfectly. Not sure the root cause but I am going to treat it as gently as possible and hope it keeps working, I sure like it better than the V1.
