I need to either replace or restring my spool on my weed whipper. Only problem being, the spool has some how tightened itself down so tight that a pipe wrench will not break it loose. Do you have any suggestions? I purchased another spool already loaded to replace this one just in case it gets broke.
Four men tried working with the spool ...one of the men tried tightening the spool, but the spool would not move either way.....Four men tried working with the spool ...one of the men tried tightening the spool, but the spool would not move either way.....

The thing is with strimmers, mower etc. Depending on which direction the designers have made it spin, they normally have a 'reverse' threaded, head. Simply 'Tighten' it up to remove, and 'undo' it, to tighten. Et voila! Happy strimming:))

"How do I remove the spool and restring my trimmer?"
The spool is ******* on. There should be a Half Sphere-like object (Spool Retainer) on the bottom of the spool where the line goes. Twist counter clock-wise, or clockwise, depending on whether you have a Left-hand or Right-hand Trimmer.
If it is a duel line trimmer then:
1. Cut two separate pieces of string, about 7 ft. each.
2. Stick the end of the line in the hole on the inside of spool.
3. Wind clockwise onto spool, putting the line that is closest to the ground on first. Once you have wound this piece on, lock the last 4"-6" inches of line through one(1) of the 4 or 5 slits on spool.
4. Repeat process for second piece of line, putting it on the top side of the spool; locking the last few inches in the slot opposite the other locked in piece. (Remember, if you have a left-handed trimmer, the winding instructions will be just the opposite.)
5. Put the spool on the trimmer, feeding the end of lines through either hole on trimmer.
6. Before you push the spool all the way on, pull the strings out of the locked position.
7. Place Half-Sphere-like object back on, twisting it clock-wise to tighten.
If it is a single line trimmer: Then just wind a single piece of string clockwise onto spool. This may need to be longer a little longer than 7ft.

you buy spool of line and thread your self, you maybe able to buy the spool already has string on the spool, most are basic, the spool should have the direction you need to string it.unplug the trimmer, turn up side down, it have nut on it, unscrew it counter clock wise, than pull spool off restring the line for the weed eater, the string must be wound counter clock wise from the direction the weed eater or trimmer spins.
Here is the info from the manual, the replacement line is put in near the center of the spool on the top of it, you simply feed it in. I have included a link to the manual so you can see the pictures. Look at page 10 for these instructions. http://www.weedeater.com/ddoc/WEEO/WEEO2009_USen/WEEO2009_USen_TE475-952711797_545186833.pdf LINE REPLACEMENT Pre--wound spools offer the most convenient method for replacing line and ensuring optimum performance. S Replacement spools are color--coded to ensure use of the correct spool with your unit. Be sure to use the same color spool as the existing spool. NOTE: Always clear dirt and debris from cutting head components when performing any type of maintenance. S Hold spool and unscrew cap by turning in the direction shown on top of the cap. S Remove line guide ring and spool. NOTE:When removing and/or installing spool, ensure dust cup remains installed over shaft. Use a pre--wound spool or refill spool with line. If using a pre--wound spool, remove tape strip from line and spool. REFILLING THE SPOOL WITH LINE WARNING: Use only 0.080" (2 mm) diameter round line. Other sizes and shapes of line will not advance properly and will result in improper cutting head function or can cause serious injury. Do not use other materials such as wire, string, rope, etc. Wire can break off during cutting and become a dangerous missile that can cause serious injury. 1. Cut a length of 25 feet of 0.080" (2 mm) diameter round WEED EATER brand line. Feed line in direction shown on spool. Spool 2. Insert one end of line into center cavity of empty spool. Ensure line will feed into spool in the direction shown on the spool (counterclockwise). 3. Continue feeding line into spool, leaving 4 -- 6 inches (10 -- 15 cm) unwound from center of spool
there should be screws in the corners/middle at the back of the head. Phillips/torx head, once they are removed, you can separate the housing and then you will need to wind the the spool counter-clockwise, note the cord is not attached, once you believe you have wound the spool enough, you will need to feed the cord through, tie a knot, burn the end and the let go of the spool and it will retract the cord, pull a couple of times to make sure the knot is holding, then reassemble and start weed eating. Good Luck Tim
I found this solution on the net. I hope it helps.
Unscrew cap and remove. Remove line guide ring. Note which way to put
line guide ring back on, slot to outer edge. Remove the empty spool.
Don't take spool apart unless you need to get inside to remove string.
The outer half should be yellow. Cut 25 ft. of .065 line. Start pushing
the line inside the spool from the center making sure the string is
winding inside in a counter clock direction which should be shown on the
spool. Keep pushing until there is about only 6 in. left.
Replace spool. Then the line guide ring, making sure to pull the string
through the middle of it. Then hold the string on the slot in the ring
while replacing the cap.
you need to locate the black knob at the trimmer head and turn it coun ter clockwise and remove it to access your string spool you may have to chase the knob with pliers because some are more than hand tight
follow arrow on the spool for line winding direction
