This is the procedure for 3.3 and 3.8L engines:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise the front of the vehicle and safely support it with jackstands.
  3. Remove the right front splash shield.
  4. Release tension by rotating the tensioner clockwise.
  5. Remove the belt and install a replacement.
  6. Proper belt tension is maintain by the dynamic tension.
  7. Install the right front splash shield. Lower the front of the vehicle.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.

The bottom may be better, you are right, the long version of the removal tool at local parts places wont give you enough room to loosen the tensioner. You can get a kit at sears that has a shorter version with sockets this one works or use an offset box wrench 15mm to get it from the top, a socket set won't do it since there is no clearance for the socket wrench and socket.

1994 Dodge Grand Caravan. Does anyone know what could cause the serpentine belt on a Dodge Grand Caravan to come off every time it rains?

Tensioner badly adjusted or pulleys are misaligned.

Take it back to the shop and ask them to fix the tension under the repair warranty.

There should be enough tension that the belt can't jump the pulleys. There is a small chance is is misrouted.

Replace serpentine belt on dodge grand caravan

If you are mechanically inclined and have the right tools, buy an owners manual where you buy the replacement belt and follow instructions. There is a belt tensioner that is a critical part of the process. If you don't have the skills or tools, get a couple of quotes and have it done at a reputable shop. Most likely should cost less than $125.

How do you replace the serpentine belt on a 2000 Dodge Stratus ES

mcdevito75 here, There should be a diagram of the belt closre to the radiator, then you"ll need a tool to move the tension pully. Best bet, let your local repair shop change the belt.

Need to know how to adjust serpentine belt, please show diagram. 6 cyl engine.

Really don't need a diagram. Loosen the slide bolts on the power steering pump. loosen or tighten the pump by turning the jack screw (long transverse bolt) under the pump. Once the belt is tightened up, lock down the slide bolts and you are finished.

Serpentine belt slipped off and the belt tensioner doesn't move

Yes! The belt will always flip off if it siezes. It's easy to change if you have the room. Good luck!

Replace serpentine belt on 1992 dodge grand

Click on the following free direct Link.
It has the correct Belt Diagrams for your 1992 Dodge Grand Caravan wirh either the 3.0L SOHC V6 or the 3.3L V6.

Included on the Diagrams are the Instructions on "Rotating" the Automatic Tensioner. See Below for additional Instructions to make your job easier.

"HOW TO": I professionally prefer the Serpentine Tensioner Tool.
Standard Rules to Removal the Serpentine Belt with an Automatic Tensioner:
1. Find the Tensioner(s).
2. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool, Or Wrench OR Ratchet, Rotate/Move the Tensioner USING THE AVAILABLE NUT (located on the Pulley or Arm Base) OR the OPENING (3/8ths or 1/2 inch square opening located on the Tensioner Arm) rotating the Tensioner Pulley/Arm - moving it away from contact with the belt and towards the area where the belt is not in contact with the Tensioner Pulley. The Tensioner is spring loaded, and is hard to rotate/move.
3. Remove the loosened belt off one of the other more easily accessed Pulleys.
4. DO NOT quickly release the Tensioner, but gently allow the Tensioner to rest in its closed position.

Standard Rules for Installing the Serpentine Belt with an Automatic Tensioner:
a. Pick a Pulley that is most easily accessed. This will usually be on top. This will be the last Pulley that the belt will go on.
b. Using the Diagram: Install the new Serpentine Belt on the remainder of the Pulleys....over, under, left right.
c. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool or Wrench or Ratchet Tool: Rotate/Move the Tensioner Pulley/Arm "away" from Belt contact area on the Tensioner. This spring is pretty hard and with a new belt, it will be even harder to install. Rotate/Move this to as-close to the maximum allowed inorder to have enough slack in the belt to get it up and over the last pulley.
d. Using your other hand - Pull the Belt up and over the Last remaining Pulley.
e. Before releasing the pressure on the Tensioner, visually inspect the remainder Pulleys and the Belts' Positioning on them.

Serpentine belt replacement

What engine do you have? The 3.3 and 3.8 engines have a single serpentine belt, and a belt tensioner, so no adjustment is needed. Did you replace the tensioner, and want to know how much to torque it? countrycurt0
