I am trying to get my wireless card to connect to a buddies wireless system. He has given me his WAP encryption code to sign on but when I bring up my cards' configuration page I cannot choose the pulldown to change to WAP. Mine is set to WEP. How do I change this so I can put in his 16 digit code so I can access his wireless system. (I have tried to input his 16 digit code into the WEP Key but it doesn't recognize most of the letters or numbers from my keypad.) My card is a 3com inprocomm ipn2120 wireless lan card. I know it's not one of your listed 3com products but I am hoping you can help me. You could send a response to email@example.com. I have tried to sign up using this email address on my buddies computers but am not sure it went through.

The WEP encryption key is in the router's wireless settings and changing this encryption will affect your wireless connection. You must also configure the computer's wireless card settings with this WEP encryption otherwise the wireless router will not allow the computer to connect to the wireless router. I suggest you use WPA or WPA2 encryption, this is a later and stronger encryption method than WEP encryption. .

The WEP, WPA, WPA2 encryption key is in your router's wireless
settings. Log into your router and got to the wireless settings, you will need
to get the SSID and the encryption key. Then go to your computer/laptop's
wireless card and configure it with the router's SSID and encryption key, so it
will then connect to the wireless router and the Internet.
When you change the WPA encryption in the wireless router, you also need to configure the wireless card in the computer with these settings.

The WEP and WAP key is configured in the wireless router settings, you create the WAP encryption key and use this key to configure the wireless card in your computer. WEP is not a very strong encryption key compared with WAP and WAP2, I suggest you use WAP2 if possible. You can create the encryption key with alpha and or numeric keys, if you want to use words or phrases to create the encryption key then use the PASSPHRASE.
you need a network key for wireless connection to get authorized and allow your PC to connect.
make sure you have right key if security is enabled on wireless router.
now if you are entering right key then need to make sure which type of encryption router is using by going into router settings as an emaple WEP,WAP,TES etc...and make sure your computer wireless settings are same as this type.
let me know if you need more info in detail or step by step.
If the wireless card is an old model it possibly won't support WAP encryption. The wireless router most likely supports both WEP and WAP encryption.
WEP is not as secure as WAP so use the highest bit encryption that is available to you.
The wireless connection device on a computer is used to connect to a wireless router that is connected to the Internet via an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and or to your home or the network where you work. You can also use it connect to a wireless hot spot (like an Internet cafe) for Internet access.
Your computer will need a wireless device either a built-in wireless card, or a PCMCIA wireless card that plugs into your computer's PCMCIA slot or a USB wireless device.
If you want to connect into the Internet wirelessly in your home, you need a wireles router that is connected to a cable modem or a DSL modem and to a ISP.
The wireless router needs to be configured (change the default settings) the SSID and encryption (WEP or WAP, WAP is a stronger encryption method) etc.
The wireless card needs to be configured with the same settings as the wireless router so it can communicate with the wireless router.
For configuration information refer to the wireless router and wireless card/device manuals.
Whilst the settings of these devices are similar between the various manufacturers, the methods they use to configure varies and you need to be precise in giving make and model of the devices, your Windows system and computer to assist us to give you detailed advice.
WEP and WAP mmmmmm.
So WEP is Wireless Encryption Protocol and WAP is Wireless Application Protocol. WAP is used in cell phones so i am presuming you actually mean WPA?
The wg511t provides the highest available level of industry standard 128-bit WEP encryption, and it’s
upgradable to Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security.
Here are the instructions to enable WPA. http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101675.asp
WPA is set from the router so if it is not supported on the router it is not supported on your card.
It is router dependant.
What router do you have.
