Could be a combination of both, clean the seal with a damp rag and all of the contact surfaces first.

My door won't stay shut. How can I adjust the door or is it a problem with the gasket?

First of all is this top freezer/refridgerator new or has the consumer had it for awhile? If not new, could have frozen food, piece of ice, etc obstructing the door. If you have frost(ice build-up) you could probably turn down the temp adjustment, might not need to be quite so cold, just a suggestion. Open the door and check the seal for damage, there is a magnetic strip in the seal that sticks to the body of the fridge keeping it shut along with vacuum etc. Check seal before calling service (800) # for further advice/ servicing. Good luck, best regards.

Have a 2 door 520L fridge/freezer (freezer at the top) and the fridge door isn't sealing. We would like to know how we can adjust the door so that it stays closed as in this hot weather the motor is...

is the seal new usually when we put a new seal on the door we use petroleum jelly aka vaseline around the entire door seal and shut the door for about two hours this causes the seal to mold to the fridge door while it is closed and also increases the amount of adherence to the door cabinet as well send me your model number so i can look up your model and send you a schematic so you will be able to adjust the door Thanks again

p.s please remember to rank or post testimonials when our chat has concluded as well and if you have any further questions message me back Thanks

Refrigerator door does not stay closed. When the freezer door is closed the refrigerator pops open.

The fridge and freezer share their airspace, so when you close one there is a slight increase in pressure in the other unit. (Much like opening a window can cause a door open/close in your house due to pressure change/air movement) The magnet in your seal of the door is weak and unable to resist the pressure change. The seal should be changed.

Could also be that the door is not shutting properly in the first place due to sagging or skewed hinges that need adjustment/replacement and while shutting just may not be getting a complete seal that it should be.

Freezer door has a gap in the middle. Seal doesn't

Put a long straight edge on the door to verify a warp. A 4 foot level is good for this test.
If the door is in fact warped. You should pull back on the seal, loosen the screws behind the seal holding the door liner in place, adjust the door to the straight edge and re-tighten the screws.
If the straight edge does not show a warped door, take a hair dryer and heat the seal where it is off the frame. Do this with the door closed and you will see the seal relax and touch the frame. Let it cool in this position before opening the door again.
If neither of these is the cause, loosen the door hinge and re-adjust the door position, then re-tighten the hinge screws.

Bottom freezer icing up

You need to address the bad magnetic seal on the freezers door. Replace if nessesary. Sometimes a door adjustment (hinges) can improve the seal as well.

Freezer door not sealing well (Frigidaire side-by-side)

your house may be settling and now the refrigerator needs to be tiloted back slightly. take run the adjusters on the front in a little until the doo closes by it self.

Freezer door won't stay shut

I have the exact same problem - very annoying. The only thing I found to work was to purchase one of those child safety locks. I bought the Kidco Appliance Fridge Lock S330 because it was the only one I could find that automatically relocks after you shut the door. Buy two (or more) at a time because the arm will eventually wear out and break (after several months depending on how often you use it). You can check out the product's details on eBay - that's where I purchased mine. Hope that helps.
