Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Tripping of AC after running good for hours.

Hi,I have a 1.5 tonn Carrier AC which worked fine for summers last year. This year around 10 days back I ahd the socket and 3 pin burnt due to unknown reasons and now we got a new 3 pin of ANCHOR(considered to be best here) and now the AC trips after say about 2-3 hours of running. At times, we have lots of light fluctuation and the back up starts working and AC starts working.I am not sure why the socket and 3 pin burnt at first, why would that be?Also now this tripping of MCB for only the AC point on daily basis with uncertainity of what time it would trip.Is the AC not functioning, or it is the stabliser that has gone crazy or still it is only due to the fluctuations?I have same power Carrier AC in the other room, but that never created any issue so far. Please help. Also please let me know, if pulling up the tripped level and using the Ac damages the AC by nay means? Also we use this AC for complete night without any break while the AC for the other room is switched off for some breaks, does this also affect? Thanks.

Hiifixalot4her, Thanks for your reply. We have a 7.5 KVA(not sure what are these units) electricity and backup from generator is 2.5 KVA.
I got my AC serviced at the beginning of this summer before using the AC, I think there some wire must have been connected incorrectly. Also we have 3 phases and on the phase of my AC we just have an LCD TV. So I probably think it has to do something that happened during the service.
I will call My AC service man again to get more acuret diagnosis of the problem.
But I want to add that twice we had the #pin and the Socket burnt up and then we changed it and yesterday itself we had the switch(on/off) linked to 3 pin melt up. I got it changed again. But can you tell me what all can lead to burning of 3pin, socket and the on/off button for AC and the tripping for AC point?
Can this affect the AC directly or it would only affect the stabliser? The Stabliser makes more sound nowadays when the compressor starts. Is the AC getting into problem?
Should I stop using the AC till the correct cause is known?
What all wrong can happen during a WET Service of the AC that causes it to trip or get burnt down?
Should I give the AC some breaks during night and will that help?

CARRIER REQIRES AT LEAST 10 VOLTS OF DC POWER TO RUN THEMOSTAT FUNCTONS YOU ARE HAVEING A PROBLEM WITH YOUR CONVERTER OR INVERTER IF YOU HAVE A MOTOR HOME NOT PRODUCING ENOUGH DC VOLTS TO POWER THEMOSTAT FUNCTION I NOTICED YOU SAID YOU HAVE TWO ACS ON THE COATCH IF YOU HAVE A 3 PIN SOCKET YOU ONLY HAVE 30 AMP SERVICE KEEPING IN MIND YOUR AC REGUIRES 16 AMPS TO START AND 11 TO RUNS SO THAT WOULD BE
AC X 2 22 AMPS RUNING
WATER HEATER AC POWER 7 TO 8AMPS
REFER 10 AMPS ON ELETRIC MAX
CONVERTER DEPENDS ON BATEERY USE BUT I WOULD SAY 6 AMPS NORMAL USE WITH A GOOD DEEP CYCLE INSTALLED ON COATCH
I SEE OVER 40 AMPS WITH OUT ANY TVS OR MICO OR THE ALL IMPORTANT WIFES HAIR DRIER

THIS IS WHY YOUR PLUG MELTED AFTER RE READING YOUR MESSAGE I WOULD ALSO CHECK YOUR BREAKER BOX AND BREAKERS FOR LOOSE CONNECTIONS AT THE BREAKER WITH THE POWER UN PLUGGED OF COARSE ALSO MAKE SURE THE CORRCT WIRE NUTS WERE USED UPON INSTALLATION OF THE AC SHOUD BE THE YELLOW ONES THEY ALSO LIKE TO COME LOOSE SO RETIGHTEN THEM AND TAPE THEM SO THEY DO NOT BACK OFF

Pour some bleach (about 2 gallons) around the perimeter and give it a good brushing. May have to repeat in a few days. That should hold fine.

SPLIT AC CONDENSER TRIPS AFTER 1 OR 2 MINS, ONLY DURING THE DAY TIME

The condensor is not cooling fast enough. Try cleaning the condensor coil. Also check that the fan goes on. At night the outside temperature is cooler and does not need much work to cool down the condensor.

If the induction motor ain't going I would look for a blown 3 amp (purple) fuse on the control board. If that was good I would check if any of the roll out switches were tripped. If a rollout switch was tripped check or air restrictions somewhere.

I just had my 2003 T & C with dual AC controls

hi there:
the easiest way to check for a leak would be to use a black light and follow the a/c lines around looking closely for the glow of the dye also look real close around the fire wall condenser and the evaporator to insure the system is sealed tight also check around the a/c pump pulley for any signs of leaks you can also check the a/c clutch by starting the van and switching a/c on to see if the clutch is engaging.... hope this helps thanks

AC not cooling during the day

Your AC cooling efficiency is low when he ambient temperature is high and naturally it cools well when the outside temperature drops.

Please remove the filter on the grill and try to clean it under the tap water and after removing all the dust fix it back to the unit. This would increase the cooling efficiency of the unit.

Your AC is also five years old. Please avoid frequent opening of doors or windows.

Ensure that the exhaust fan and the blower of your unit are functioning normal.

The technician might not have done a proper job in fixing the area where the refrigerant would have leaked out. Please check the refrigerant pressure to ensure that no further refrigerant leak has taken place. Or even servicing your unit he would have punchered the tubes resulting in very slow leak of refrigerant resulting in no cooling or less cooling. It takes around a month to feel the pinch of it and the refrigerant. One fine morning after sometime the unit will run and it would start throwing hot air instead of cool breeze!
