Question about Microsoft Excel 2007 Home and Student Edition for PC

I had accidentally saved my file before I rename it, so my previous file was overwrite. I didn't realize it till I had exited the excel spreadsheet! What can I do or is there any way to recover my previous file? Anand

There is a slim chance that Excel saved a backup copy of it. To check this you will need to go to the folder that the file is saved into and be sure that show hidden files is turned on. You will see a hidden file with a name close to the file you were working with.

Open any spread sheets in that folder with a name close to the one you are trying to recover. These will be the cached copies the program makes when you open up a file. As I said be sure you have show hidden files turned on and keep in mind some of these version can be out of date if they exist at all.

Unfortunately, overwriting a file is one of the best way to delete/destroy a file. Had you just deleted it you could of used a data recovery app to get it back. Something like GetDataBackNTFS (Assuming you are in windows with a NTFS filesystem) MIGHT find it. Honestly, I think that file is gone for good if you can not file a cached version created by Excel.

Try in "My Recent Documents"
If not save the cuurent files on a USB and do a system restore to a previous time!

My excel files is not open how to open it


Hi.

OPTION 1
Right click your excel file, select the RENAME option.
Type any name and at the end put .xls example... nunex will be nunex.xls
Save it and try to open again.

If that dosnt work, go to microsoft Office, Excell. Open and select the files.

OPTION 2
For one reason you see the logo has changed from excel to a strange logo, then you must right click the file, Properties, then where it says Opens with you select CHANGE. -- > Browse -- > and select Microsoft Excel.
SAVE and Exit.

It will be solved.

Use http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ to find the serial number. As for the corrupt Excel program, you may need to determine what exactly is the problem there.

Go to Start, All Programs, Microsoft Office and see if Excel is listed. If it is, then click on it to launch it. Does it open? If so, then go to where your excel spreadsheets are saved to (e.g. My Documents) then right click an Excel spreadsheet & click on "Open With". Select Choose Program. Select the Microsoft Excel. If Excel is not listed, click the browse button and browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12. Click the Always use the selected program to open this type of file checkbox. Click OK

There are two ways to do this, depending on what extent you want to protect the spreadsheet.

Windows Read-Only method:
  1. Save and Close the Excel file.
  2. Using Windows Explorer, locate the Excel file in its folder.
  3. Right-click on the file name
  4. Click on "Properties" at the bottom of the drop-down window.
  5. Check the [x] Read-Only box and [OK]
  6. * DONE *
Excel "Protect" Method:

  1. Open the Excel spreadsheet that you want to protect
  2. On the top menu, select [Tools]
  3. Click [Protection] on the drop-down menu
  4. Select [Protect Workbook]
  5. Check [x]Structure and [x]Windows
  6. Enter a password if you wish, but remember it!
  7. Click [OK]
  8. Save and close the spreadsheet and test the protection.
  9. *DONE *
