Question about Toshiba Satellite M35X-S111 Notebook

1 Answer

The screen comes on, but is white/grey. Connected laptop to PC monitor, the motherboard seems to be OK. How difficult is it to buy a new screen and install it? Should I have it professionally looked at?

Since your video is ok on the external monitor, this could be a problem with the cable that runs from the laptop up through the hinge to the screen. I would definitely adivse you to have a professional check this out. If the laptop screen is defective, it is extrremely expensive to replace. Get more than one quote for the work.

Have you tried with a external monitor, if that works the gfx card is ok and fault lies in a connector that has released from the motherboard. The lcd isn't getting the signal from gfx card wich only can be the connector or the control circuits(matrix circuits) for the display the latter example requires a new screen.
But if the external monitor doesn't show anything it's the graphics card mounted on the motherboard that has given up and that isn't something can be fixed without replacing the motherboard.

When you turn on the laptop, the screen comes up black and white .. then it shows with broad lines of green and purple.

Hi there,

Here's the best way to troubleshoot your problem.

1. Connect your laptop to an external monitor. If you don't have a desktop PC at home, ask to use a friend's monitor. If your laptop will display normally on the external monitor, then you know your problem is only the LCD screen or the Screen Inverter which is a small slender controller circuit panel connected to the bottom of the screen behind the bezel (the plastic frame covering the edges of your screen.

2. If the laptop shows the same problem on the external monitor as it does on the laptop's screen, then your video chip is failing on the motherboard, and you'll either have to send the laptop to a motherboard repair company (many are listed on eBay) or the motherboard itself will have to be replaced.

Note: Some comapnies on eBay have a flat rate of 125.00 or less for this repair. However, if they cannot repair it, they send your laptop back and refund the fee. If your laptop needs a new motherboard, you may have to make the decision to just purchase a new laptop if you find the cost of the replacement too high to make sense.

Good Luck!

HP laptop. Ok when turned on, then after a while

f it's just the screen that's broken (most likely a connector if it goes white when you move the hinge) you could probably fix it yourself by taking the case off the screen and reinserting the connector. If it's the motherboard, though, and you want someone else to fix it.

Here it seems that monitor has got problem, you have to replace the LCD panel, which will cost you some amount.

Thanks.

its not getting any signal from the PC/laptop, the multi pin wire is not connected properly.
you alos need to make changes in your control panel under Display/Monitor/ there must be the option to switch from laptop screen to monitor screen
check the correct option

I'm also experiencing same sort of white screen problem.

To determine if the LCD screen or the video card is faulty, connect an external monitor to the video connector on the laptop. Power up the external monitor first and then the laptop. The video should divert automatically to the external monitor and if you get a normal image then the video card is OK and the fault could be the LCD screen or the video cable. Reseating the video cable and connector on the motherboard could fix yout problem.

Dell e173fpf lcd monitor is grey

Sounds like the AD section of the board may be junk. I did the same thing - bought the board from lcdrepair.com.

I submitted an RMA request to get a replacement. The process was difficult due to the pdf form they make you fill out. Lots of errors and no good way to submit it, since it wants to use outlook, but the pdf isn't configured properly to do so. Seems fishy, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for now. We'll see.
