Depending on what model you have, check the stand assembly and the changeover valve.

SOURCE: hose attachment

Your wand is getting stuck in the hose because the hose is twisted - you need to unwind it:

1) Pull the wand up as far as you can, all the way if possible
2) Stretch the hose out and unwind it, use some babypowder on the metal part of the wand and in the future, unwind and stretch the hose out after you use it

3) If you can't get the wand all the way out, remove the canister from the front, push the button where you see the 7 vertical grooves (on the opposite side of the hook that you wind the cable around) - then pull on the hook and pull the hose up and off of the machine - stretch the hose out from the bottom and pull the wand out - now apply baby powder to the metal rod and disconnect and stretch and unwind the hose every time after you used the wand to clean.

SOURCE: dyson animal 17 the floor part works but when you stand upright to use hose is shuts off?

    Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC17. If the machine shuts off when standing in the upright position, it may be overheating due to a blockage in the wand, hose or U-bend. The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

It's also a good idea to give the filter a wash - in normal use this should be done at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for it to dry completely before replacing it.

This should resolve the issue, but for any further assistance please call us free on 1-866-693-9766 or email us at

    Best wishes,

No suction in attachment hose. There is no clogg

Most likely cause is that the handle needs to be full upright to engage the attachment hose. If it's tipped backward, like you'd have it when doing vacuuming with the bottom unit, it's shut off. You may also want to move the handle to full upright and then back to deeply angled backward a few times in event that the mechanism is stuck or sticky. Good luck!

Dyson dc27 (not ball version) extension wand will not release from the body. Have had the the vacuum cleaner for a year and it has been fine until now. Have tried disconnecting aluminium tube from the hose...

    Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC27. If the wand is jammed, it's likely that the hose was twisted when you replaced the wand on the cleaner the last time you used it. It's easy to rectify:

    • Pull the wand up as far as it will go
    • With the rear of the cleaner facing you, follow the hose down to where it attaches at the base of the machine
    • Grip the section of loose hose and pull it away from the cleaner
    • Holding the loose section of hose out of the way, pull the hose release tab
    • With the base of the hose detached from the cleaner, allow the hose to straighten itself out
    • Reattach hose to cleaner
You should find following these steps untwists the hose, allowing the wand to move up and down without restriction. However, if you need further assistance, please get in touch with us free so one of our experts can run through some troubleshooting checks over the phone with you. The vacuum keeps falling over and won't stand upright. The vacuum won't **** from the bottom, only from the hose in the handle.

No Vacuum will work for more than a few weeks
if you don't own an air compressor & blow them out
after every 2 or 3 uses

No vaccum at the hose attachment, the main powerhead has vaccum

You may have a blockage somewhere. Take the U-Bend (next to the right-hand wheel if you stand behind the vacuum cleaner) off. It is attached to the vacuum with a rectangular-shaped clip - it's purple. It is the pipe that is attached under the long gray hose. After that take out the AI Valve (the pipe above the right-hand side wheel) that has two purple buttons to remove it. Take the wand off and look through it - you should see light coming through the other end even though the wand is not straight all the way. If you can't see light through the other end the blockage is in the wand. Stretch the hose out and make sure there are no dark spots inside - those would be blockages. If all else fails call the Dyson helpline, they'll help you.

    Dyson 07 won't stand up

I talked to Dyson support (they are open 6 days a week, try them if you're stuck)

Turn the vacum on it's side. Look on the side that has Bare floor/carpet control. There is a hose with two yellow buttons. Detach the hose. On the square side, look for a black button. Depress the button, then release. On the square side, slide the square up until it locks in place.

Now try to see if it will go upright (it should)

    Finally, re-attach the hose.
