Kenwood Nav system in 08 Subaru Impreza

Hi I just recently purchased the 08 impreza with the Kenwood nav unit, it allows dvds and other video to play but only when the car is not moving, before I purchased this the salesman said it played all the time, but it wasn't til I got the car home that I realized he was full of it. I know there has to be a way to bypass this either thru a hidden setup code or the wiring. Can you help?

Thanks Scott

To Guest - press the GPS "button" on the screen with the little arrow. That'll fix you right up.

As to the Nav, there's a gray wire top and driver's side that you'd cut and ground - that'll fool the car into thinking you've got the parking brake up, and you don't, nor do you have the annoying light on your dash!

Pull the e-brake handle up 1 notch - not enough to engage the brake but enough to engage the switch to allow the video to play...

How do u bypass the emergency brake sensor on the kenwood dnx8120?

exactly, just connect the parking wire to a ground source and your problem is solved. This hack also allows use of the nav. while the vehicle is moving.

Alpine IVA-D310-navigation option?

The nav feature is purchased separatly with the deck, the previous owner did not purchase it because at the time alpine was charging an extra $1000 on top of the price of the deck to add nav. This is due to the fact that alpine decided to use there own reasearch and development team to design a nav system where as kenwood baught the rights to use garmin's technology and put there name on it which they only charge $400 on top of the price of head unit to add nav.

If youve rigged it to watch dvd's while moving. the sat nav thinks the parking brake is on and wont move. The vss cable needs to be connected as well.

Factory controls interface?

Call these guys at and purchase the SWC module that matches your vehicle (ask for Scroche brand). Once you purchase the SWC module, make sure you read the installation instructions two or three times before you install it. Once installed, these SWC units work great. I just completed the installation on my 2008 F150 with the Kenwood DNX-7100 and my steering wheel interface works perfectly.

Kenwood DDx8017 with navigation

Which NAV system are you using with it? KNA-G510, etc needs to be plugged into the NAV port on back and then you need to go into the System Settings to enable the NAV option and voice interruptions correctly. You'll want to look for AV Interface in the System Settings.

Here is the DDX8017 manual for some help:
