I'm having the same problem. Can't even lock the top part at all. So of course it won't turn on. And its Christmas Eve and I just bought this yesterday as my gift to myself. Any answers anyone?????
My food processor will not turn on, I have tried everything, It too is brand
new, I have used it twice. Also very frustrating.
I have locked the two locking parts in place, check the plug,
ah! well my mother just tried using her DLC-10S 7 cup food processor and she also encountered the same problem. It worked perfectly fine when she first used it around Christmas time but not anymore.
After almost smacking the hell out of it we discovered that there is a plastic tab on the lid towards the handle side. This plastic tab actually pushes a lever through the cup and into the base of the food processor.
New Bee actually mentions this above. The problem is that the flimsy plastic tab in the handle isn't stiff enough to push the lever down anymore. I'm amazed it worked the first time.
This is very much a design flaw by Cuisinart as there's no way this plastic tab would ever last.
Now there is a small opening in the case right above the plastic tab. To get our food processor going we just pushed a chopstick down on the tab and held it in place while the food processor runs.
This is very much a temporary solution until we get a new food processor, obviously a different model.

I had the same problem recently when I was trying to use the food processor I bought a while ago, while using it for the first time.
I did not have the original packing or the manual to read.
I figured out ultimately that I wasn't locking the handle correctly in place. There is small black button on the surface of the food processor, where the handle of the top jar sits and thus releases the lock.
I am not sure if I explained this right... that small black thing when pushed inside by the handle, it releases the lock.
best of luck to get it working. I know how it feels when you get everything ready to prepare the food and the damn thing doesn't work.

Well, after a half hour of trying to "lock" the top parts together, and thinking I might have succeeded but the darn, brand new, 7-cup Cuisinart wouldn't start I did this:
I got over being real delicate and slammed the bottom and then the top down over it with a sharp whack of my hand. And guess what? It started.
So I suppose it helps to take an "alpha dog" approach.
Hopes this encourages someone else.
