Locked out of external hard drive!!!

I own a simpletech 400GB external Hard drive. I can access the hard drive but can't access any of the folders (access denied). I let someone at my job set it up for me and they messed up the security settings. Now the security tab doen't even show up under the property tab. What can I do to get full access to all of my data on the hard drive? Please help

How to put songs on The Simpletech Drive?

Just plug the Simpletech in the old computer that has the songs on it. Your computer will recognize the Simpletech drive. You can copy (from your old computer) and paste your songs to the Simpletech drive. Maybe all the songs you want will be in your My Music folder under My Documents. If so, you can just copy the whole My Music folder to the Simpletech.

Once you have the songs on the Simpletech, you can now plug it into the new computer. You can copy an paste from the Simpletech to your My Music Folder on the new computer.

You can also use the drag and drop instead of copy and paste.

I have uploaded everything on my Mac laptop hard drive to my SimpleTech external hard drive. I removed most of my music (in iTunes) and some other files to make room on my Mac. Now I'm having trouble...

You may need to tell iTunes where your iTunes media folder location is. You can do this in iTunes, go iTunes>Preferences>Advanced Tab>Change button, then navigate to where your iTunes media is and choose this as its location.

Write protection on file and folders

right click on them and go to properties, and then the button for encryption selected?
here's something to try. in xp pro, you need to have simple file sharing disabled, and in xp home, you have to boot into safe mode and login to administrator.
right click properties of the file or directory that's locked and go to the security tab, click on advanced. you're now looking for the owner tab, click on that and then select YOUR user name from the list and click on "replace owner on subcontainer and files" click apply and let it should ahve access to the files afterwards.
..if however, the files ARE encrypted, i dont think you'll have any luck

My 320GB External hard drive is showing access denied when I click on it.

the file you need is called takeownership you have to google for it as it's in one of the forums the file is in the form of a zip file and when extracted you select the takeownership and install a little code into your reg and when you select a folder right mouse button on it and select takeownership this willl get rid of access denied garbage and give you full control over the folder and you do the same on any hard drive.

hope this will solve problems of access denied
