Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Before I had the air conditioning compressor, belts and idler pulley replaced, the vents in my 1995 Oldsmobile 98 Elite were working fine, after the work was done the vents on the passenger side of the car do not put out any air the ones on the driver side work just fine. What do I do to get the air to the other vents???

Take it back to the shop that did the work and ask them to check there work they may have left a hose or connetor off. and should fix it for free if it has not been that long. And if they did mess it up they need to know they have a problem with one of there guys doing sloppy work, give them a chance to make it right, then if they won't post here again and I will give you some ways to check it out.

I was not getting anywhere with your experts toward solving the problem, I gave up on them and sold the car, let someone else solve the problem, they are aware of it.
Sorry your actions did not help. be sure I am not charged on my credit card.

1995 nissan maxima alternator replacement

1995-98 Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Remove the splash guard on the right side of the vehicle.
  3. Loosen the alternator belt idler pulley.
  4. Slip the drive belt off the alternator pulley.
  5. Remove the four air conditioning compressor mounting bolts.
  6. Remove the radiator fan and fan shroud.
  7. Move the air conditioning compressor forward.
  8. Disconnect the alternator harness connector.
  9. Remove the alternator mounting bolts, and lower the alternator from the vehicle.
To install:
  1. Hold the alternator in place and install the mounting bolts.
  2. Plug in the alternator harness connector.
  3. Move the air conditioning compressor back into location.
  4. Install the radiator cooling fan and shroud.
  5. Install the air conditioning compressor mounting bolts.
  6. Place the drive belt on the alternator pulley.
  7. Tighten the drive belt to the proper tension with the idler pulley.
  8. Install the splash guard.
  9. Connect the negative battery terminal.
Proper belt tension is important. A belt that is too tight may cause alternator bearing failure; one that is too loose will cause a gradual battery discharge and/or belt slippage, resulting in belt breakage from overheating.

Serpentine belt on '97 3.8 Mustang pops off idler pulley even though everything appears to be properly aligned after A/C compressor replacement.

If the idler and nearby pulleys are all in-line, not excessively worn and the axis is exactly at a right-angle to the belt run the belt should not pop off, therefore either the idler or other pulleys are worn tapered or sagging or it is possible the belt has become stretched on one edge.

You could try turning the belt around so it is traveling in the opposite direction and see if it makes any difference. Some idler pulleys will also turn round if required.

I hope this provides food for thought.

2001 holden rodeo air conditioning broken, broken fan belt, suitable fanbelt to bypass aircon

Use the same belt as the ac compressor will not work unless you turn it on. Disconnect the wire to the ac pulley clutch and the pulley just becomes an idler and you can get the standard belt anywhere.

Where is the adjustment screw for ac on 95 acura legend need to change air condition belt

Hi, there is a bolt above the idler pulley to adjust. First loosen slightly the center nut on the face of the idler pulley. Then tighten the adjusting bolt to proper tightness on the belt. Finally, retighten the center nut on the face of the idler pulley.

High pitched howling and screeching (yes two different noises). The howling appears to happen when the air conditioning compressor pulley engages. The screeching, my guess would be from the belt. Any...

When the AC compressor kicks on, an electrical load is placed on the alternator and the drive belt that turns the alternator pulley, if not tight enough, can cause the belt to squeal. Replacing the belt should help with that noise if the belt is stretched from wear. The screeching noise can be from a bad idler pulley, a bad belt tensioner pulley or a bad alternator pulley or a failing clutch on a very old ac compressor and rarely a water pump pulley. To check pulleys remove the drive belt and turn them individually to see if they can be tilted up down or sideways with play in the "bearing" of the pulley. Also, you may wish to visually inspect the clutch on the ac and look for melted black rubber around the bolts that secure the clutch to the compressor (stinks, smokes and melts these rubber areas if ac compressor clutch fails).

How do i change the air conditioning compressor

start by evacuating any r134 left in system remove lines off back of comp. any elec conn, remove serp belt by pulling down tensioner. slid belt off idler pulley. remove mnt bolts. comp loose and ready to replace. I would recommend checking orifice tube or replacing If comp failed may have metal shavings in system. then recharge. If system still has r12 u need to buy retrofit kit replace high low side connectors. kit runs 35 dollars.
