Sadly that about sums up your issue when dealing with a ticking drive. This sound is normally caused by a hardware malfunction of your drive controller board, motor or head. If your drive is still detectable under your OS you can attempt to recover the data with a software recovery utility. However, be warned that the more you use a failing drive the worse the damage will become and it could possibly increase the cost to have it recovered.

The reason for the high price tag on the data recovery service is due to companies having to open your drive inside a clean room to avoid any dust damaging your data. They then replace the failed parts on your drive or transplant your platters holding the data into working hardware to recover said data. While some of these repairs can be done by hardcore computer users it is very rare to do it at home.

I have an external samsung disk and suddenly I cannot access to any of my folders. When I try opening any of them it throws an error stating that: E:/recycler/file.exe is missing...thanks :))

use asoftech data recovery program to scan your external hard drive and then recover lost files. you can find it from facebook
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Asoftech-Data-Recovery/290956907592436?sk=info

This software scans all storage space on external hard drive and then join pieces together to recover files. So even virus affected your file table, and put virus to boot sector, the program can still be used to recover your files. Asoftech data recovery software will recover deleted files emptied from the Windows Recycle Bin, or lost due to the format or corruption of a hard drive, virus or Trojan infection, unexpected system shutdown or software failure.

I have a WD 500GB External Hard Drive that is not being recognized by my PC (Windows). The power light comes on the external hard drive and an hear faint clicking when first plugged in, but no access....

If it shows up in 'my computer' as a drive letter(like E: drive) but you can't access it,you can recover data on it with data recovery program to avoid losing your data.I have succeed with Tenorshare data recovery. It can recover data after deeply scanning your external hard drive to look for lost data due to drives crash, physical damage, system sabotage, virus attack etc.You can get it here: http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoverystandard.htm After you recover your data, you can format it to check out whether it can be fixed.
If the hard drive can't be detected, you can try this way.Put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in the freezer for overnight. Then while it's still cold plug it into the computer and you may be able to view it in 'my computer'. And if needed, run the recovery program to recover your data on it.
If it fails, you will have to go to a recovery office where supply data recovery service but let's hope not because it will cost you a lot of money and whether they can recover data is not guaranteed.

This should not be to hard to recover.

Unless reformatted it is likely that only file indexing problem is the issue.

External hard drives are for copies.
Never allow a to ever be your only copy.

FREE FILE RECOVERY PROGRAM GOTO:
www.recuva.com
Just choose a drive,
Your Hard drive.
Then click the Scan button.

Hope this Tip helps you.

Is there a way to recover lost data from my Western Digital My Book??

Yes, there is a way to recover lost data from a WD drive.

First thing first - STOP using your WD drive immediately! If you continue using the disk drive, you significantly increase the risk that the files you want to recover will be lost forever due to overwritten. Every new file or action will take up more "free space" and reduce your chances of retrieving your deleted files from WD.

The next step - get a good HDD data recovery software to retrieve the data as most as possible.
