Question about HP Pavilion dv6000 Motherboard

Display is intermittent

Dear FixYa Team,

Re: HP pavilion dv6000:

On boot the lights illuminate the keybrds media ctr /rom spins /hhd shows activitity but no display. The display however comes on intermittently after numerous restarts. Once in a blue moon I get to the desk top only to have the system freeze after bout 3 to 5 minutes.

Occassionally on the splash screen I get vertical red lines which leads me to believe it's graphical, but then I get to the desktop and no lines.
During the boot up, the system appears to be re-intializing, sort of cycling itself on /off, (indicated by lights dimming to off and then on again)

I have disable the following; all boot up programs, the rom, swap out memory chips and even remove the battery, Still the intermittitent & freezing displays continue.

All forums I check point back to the mobo, and as you can gather
it's out of warranty and HP support want me to pay for what clearly is an lemon of a product. I was either hoping for a full proof way to know if its the GPU or is it the MOBO....or even a solution.

Thanks for your time regarding this issue.

Hello & thank you for your possible solution. After researching a bit on what you've explained it does seem that this maybe the problem, unfortunately to repair the problem is a bit out of expertise,( that is without making matters worst;). I will have a pro take a look at it.

Thanks again, I will update you on the outcome.

Hi,
the problem is with the nvidia gpu. the solder on the bga balls is unleaded and does not have the flex of leaded balls. the gpus needs to be heated on an ir solder station with preheater to 210 degree C for 30 seconds. this should cure it. if it still does not work, the gpu needs to be reballed. you can obtain replacement balled gpu from ebay. you do need to prep board correctly and use proper ir solder station to do this.

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

I ordered a new backlight on Ebay from Hong Kong cost $10 found a video on youtube on how to do it by typing in "replacing dv6000 backlight" apart from soldering a couple of wires was pretty straight forward and took less than an hour. Shop had quoted $400 to do this and fine is now working like new again. Good luck from Scott and please dont forget to vote

Hp pavilion dv6000 laptop ...now displays no main page/screen only a blues screen is there an easy way to remove/fix this

This blue screen error comes when there is memory related issue.
For that first REFix your ram memory . It is in back side of laptop .
Then also you have to fix bugs on harddisk .
For that you need winxp bootable or recovery disk.
Then boot your computer with that disk.
You can set first boot device as your cd or dvd rom in bios when you power up the computer press F1 or
F2 or "del" key then ente rin bios then set first boot device as your cd or dvd rom.then save settings.
Then put bootablew disk in cd or dvd rom then follow the procedure then enter in recovery console mode.
Then type in prompt "chkdsk /r"
then press "y"
then it fix error on harddisk.
Then if still face problem then choose your existing windows repair option .

Let me know if you need more assistanse.
Thanks.
