Question about Gemini PDT-6000 Turntable

1 Answer

GOING FROM 45 TO 33

WHEN YOU SELECT THE 33RPM SPEED BUTTON WHEN RUNNING AT 45RPM DOES NOT WORK SOMETIMES.

HOWEVER, IF YOU TURN THE POWER BUTTON OFF AND ON THE SPEED GOES BACK TO 33RPM AGAIN. THIS MEANS YOU CAN FULLY OPERATE THE DECK AGAIN.

WHEN YOU SWITCH THE TURNTABLE ON THE SPEED IS AT 33 AND THEN THE 45 SPEED BUTTON WORKS FINE.

THIS HAS EVEN GOT ME BEATEN! ANY IDEAS ANYONE AS THIS ONE IS A BIT OF A PUZZLE.

Because you cannot go back to 33rpm from 45rpm, this also means you can't access 78rpm as both speed lights must be lit to do this. Someone must have a clue how to rectify this!

Due to the fact you can't return to 33rpm from 45, this also mean that 78 cannot be accessed as both speed indicators must be lit! Surely, someone must have knowledge how fix this?

I HAVE FOUND THE PROBLEM AND CURED IT!!!!

For anyone who is experiencing the same problem the solution is that BOTH of the speed select microswitches must be replaced. If these buttons are used all the time they WILL wear out. I have repaired my Gemini PDT6000 this morning and it is NOW working great with no hassle at all.

I'm sure this will be of benefit to those people with GEMINI PDT6000 decks suffering speed change problems.

I have actually posted a cure for this problem but I think it went in the wrong place.

OK! This fault occurs because the microswitches under the 33 & 45 buttons need replacing (and I have just cured mine today). The 33 switch was totally gone and the 45 switch was just on it's last legs. Now that I have replaced them, the speed switchover is excellent on 33, 45 and 78.

When in normal DJ use these buttons get hammered and eventually they wear out and give up!

Hope this is cure some people are looking for!

I have sorted this problem myself. See my postings for the solution to this. By the way, this model is Direct Drive.

    HELLO!

The Gemini PDT6000 is a DIRECT DRIVE deck, not belt driven.

I don't know if this model is direct driven or by belt. If it's belt driven then the belt could be fitted incorrectly, or faulty. Another possibilty is that there's a fault in the motor control circuit.

How can I fix the speed myself on a Steepletone ST918 record player ? 33rpm plays LP's at 45rpm !!!!

I am not familiar with this brand, but many turn tables adjust the speed using a rubber wheel and a turntable motor with different shaft sizes. The shaft is ground smaller in steps the further from the motor. As the rubber wheel is moved up the shaft, the slower the turn table spins. Most times you can lift the turntable up (may have a clip to hold it in place) and look to see if the wheel moves up and down on the shaft as you shift speeds.

My Jensen JTA 450 is playing LPs too slow even though 33RPM is already set. The songs are slower than usual. Please help me.

The record that you are trying to play maybe a 45rpm recording. Some 45's were released in album size recordings.

My turn table is going to fast when i play an record , what can i do to fix this? thanks

Hello the turn table has two speeds. 45rpm and 33rpm (rotations per minute) If you are playing a record that takes up the entire turntable you need to set it on 33rpm. For the records that only take up half of the turntable you want to set it on 45rpm. Setting the turntable on the wrong setting for a certain size record can make the record play to fast of to slow.

My Crosley turntable is spinning too fast at 33RPM

Mismatch speeds on older turntables is normally due to either 1) a kink in the speed switch mechanism or 2) a hardening and slipping of the rubber drive wheel.
A very small motor with a chamfered shaft drives the rubber drive wheel, and the wheel is moved by the speed control up and down the drive shaft to produce various rpm speeds.
In your case, it's likely turning at 45rpm because it isn't settling onto the 33rpm part of the shaft.
Piddle with the speed control, then count the speed (number of turns in a minute) You'll figure it out!

Turntable 45rpm speed has stopped working

Check that the lever is actually making the contact with the 45 rpm switch position and completing the circuit as it would seem everything else works. The only other thing it could be is a break on the pcb, but that is unlikely.

Sounds like a short on the pcb, one of the IC's could have gone bad, or the 33/45 have shorted out. Unless you have the proper tools i can only direct you to who you could send it to or order the part(s) from. If youre good at soldering and can work in square inch spaces, go for..

The 45rpm speed select button will not work

the 45 button is known as a push button switch. If the switch is affect, replacing should remedy, but it could be possible that the voltage variation on the motor is affected.

keep me posted.
