Question about Dell Computers & Internet

Audio device not recognized!

Hi, I have a strange problem with my speakers. This morning I switched on my computer as usual and the sound just wouldn't work at all. When I tried going on Control Panel I found "Audio device not recognized". I downloaded a sound driver from the Dell website (my model is an OptiPlex GX110) but that didn't work either. The speakers can still switch on and are still connected to the tower, but the PC doesn't recognise them at all. (They are harman/kardon speakers) It's as if they were never installed. Does this mean that my sound card is irreprabably damaged, will I have to get a new one? Or is there something wrong with my sound driver?

Thanks, but I think I know what the problem is - there are no drivers available for Windows XP :/
Also I did try System Restore but that didn't seem to work either.
But thanks for your help anyway :)

Please click the link below to download and install the driver again and see whether it works.

Most times this works!

If not do a system restore to yesterdays date when the sound was working!

All the best!

Logitech speakers not working no sound

Turn off the speakers. Restart the computer with the speakers off. Once fully booted turn on the speakers. I had this problem where with the speakers on when the computer was started the sound card was not even recognized. Loading drivers had no affect. Good luck.

Be sure that you have not "muted" your computer's audio-output.

Open the audio "mixer", and check that the "line-out" mix has not been pulled-down to a 'zero' level.

Try the speakers in some other (desktop or laptop) computer.

Try different speakers in your computer.

Check that you're plugging-in to the (green-coloured) "line-out" socket on your audio-adapter (not the blue-coloured "line-in" nor the pink "microphone-in" sockets).

There _are_ limits to what the "Plug-and-Play" features of Windows will detect. Generally, speakers are *NOT* listed within Device Manager.

Try switching from '5.1' to '2-channel-stereo', just to test it.

2.1 SPEAKERS NO SOUND. CONTROL PANEL DOESN'T RECOGNIZE ANY AUDIO DEVICE & CANNOT ADJUST SPEAKER VOLUME.HAVE NEVER HAD SPEAKERS HOOKED UP BEFORE.

> CONTROL PANEL DOESN'T RECOGNIZE ANY AUDIO DEVICE

That's your problem. It could be:

* the audio-device integrated on your computer's motherboard is "disabled" -- Windows cannot use it

* there is *NO* audio-device integrated on your computer's motherboard -- Windows cannot use non-existent hardware.

* Windows has not installed the correct device-drivers for the integrated audio-device.

* you have an add-in PCI audio-device, and Windows has not installed the correct device-drivers for this hardware.

Hi,
The speaker jack is coloured green on newer computers and usually sits alongside a blue and a pink jack. Firstly, make sure your speakers are plugged into the green socket. If this doesn't solve the problem, you need to check in "device manager to make sure your sound card is installed correctly. Make sure the sound card is listed in "device manager" then make sure there is no yellow dot next to your sound card. If there is a yellow dot next to your device, it's a simple matter of downloading the correct driver for the sound card. If you need further assistance regarding this don't hesitate to ask me.
Best wishes,

My computer does not regonize any audio devices

From a distance, it sounds like you do not have the sound card drivers installed. Since it is a SoundBlaster card, go to creative.com and download a utility that finds, indentifies, and then installs the drivers for your sound card. That should fix the problem. If not, then you have other issues going on with motherboard drivers not being installed installed.
