This has happened in my GE side-by-side (model GSS20IEMDWW). For me,the problem was caused by a faulty temp sensor in the fresh food side. That sensor never signalled the computer that the temp in the fresh food side was cool enough, so the compressor ran constantly.

Sincethe compressor was running constantly, the evaporator coils (back wallof the freezer compartment) eventually iced over (took about a week).Since the fan that draws air over the evaporator coils could no longermove any air (due to the icing), the temperature in the fresh food sidecontinued to climb. (The fresh food side is chilled through a hole witha motorized door at the top of the dividing wall, so if no air ismoving in the freezer compartment, temps in the fresh food compartmentclimb.)

I replaced the temp sensor in the fresh food side andsolved the problem for a while. About six months later I had the sameproblem again, so I replaced both temp sensors in the freezercompartment - which solved the problem again. (My fridge is about seven years old.)

Ifyou are going to replace any of the temp sensors, replace them allunder the principle of "if one failed, the rest will soon fail too".

Use a website like www.partselect.com to look up a parts diagram for your fridge and see if you can order just the temp sensors. Other websites (www.repairclinic.com and www.appliancepartsworldwide.com) may also be helpful. I have no affiliation with any of the sites I just mentioned - I'm just posting them as resources.

Samsung RS267LBSH/XAA evaporators (both the refrigerator and freezer sides) building up with frost. It works fine for about a week after defrosting with blow dryer, and then same problem happens.

Your defrost heaters are not working. The unit takes a week to freeze up and presto - poor cooling. Melt the ice and it works fine again till it freezes up again. Did you check out the defrost timer? Make sure that the defrost elements are not open.

The contents of the refrigerator freeze even on low settings

One of the most common problems with freezers is their tendency to build up a thick level of frost and ice that can disrupt performance. The ice can form on the hoses and cause the fan to freeze up. While you want the freezer to be cold, too much ice is not good for the freezer or the food inside it. There are multiple reasons a freezer could start to develop frost buildup.

Freezer Overstocked
Frost can build up in the freezer if there are too many items inside of it. Air cannot properly circulate around the freezer, so the areas with the sitting cold air can freeze the moisture. Frost continues to build up and accumulate, which then allows it to spread. If food is stocked up near the fan, cold air can't get past it, and the fan itself could develop frost to the point where it freezes and stops working entirely. This can be prevented by not overstocking the freezer and by evenly distributing food throughout.

Temperature Setting Too Low
The freezer should have a thermostat that regulates how cold it gets. If the temperature is set at too low of a setting, the freezer kicks into high gear, the air freezes outright and frost quickly builds up. Adjusting the thermostat to a higher temperature or level can counteract this problem, but you may need to de-thaw the freezer to eliminate the frost that has already built up inside.

Keeping the Fridge Door Open
Many people keep their fridge door open for extended periods of time while they examine the contents inside to see what they want to eat. This can contribute to frost buildup in the freezer, because the fridge is taking in a lot of warm air during this process and the fan pushes it up into the freezer. The moisture in that air is then quickly frozen, and ice can build up substantially as a result. The longer the fridge door is held open, the more likely this can occur, so the best solution is to only keep the fridge open for short intervals and then to not open the door again for a while.
Hope this tips will help you. : )

Freezer is cool but not freezing or making ice - fridge not cold

If there is frost on the back wall of the freezer, then the compressor is running. Another (maybe) good thing is the fan is running.

The problem could be -

1) Bad defrost heater
2) Failed defrost sensor
3) Failed defrost timer or refrigerator controller board.

There are diagnostic tests to determine the problem, but require skill at using a multimeter and possibly reading a schematic/wiring diagram.

You can temporarily make the refrigerator run again for awhile by unplugging, opening the doors, and defrosting for 6-8 hours (store food in coolers.). Then plug it back in. Note, water may come out of the freezer as a result of defrosted ice.

Fridge is not cold enough, freezer is working fine, but has frost

Just had the same problem with my side-by-side.

In my case, the solution was to empty the freezer side, to access a back panel INSIDE the freezer covering the fan and cooling coils. Two screws held the back panel cover on, and when I removed the panel cover I found the cooling coils to be totally iced up, preventing the flow of cold air into the fridge side. I left the freezer open for a few hours until all the ice was melted, before replacing the inside panel. (I used a blow dryer to help speed up the ice melting).

Everything's working fine now for me - good luck with yours!

The automatic defrost system is malfunctioning causing a frost build up. There are 3 components in the defrost system. A timer, a thermostat, and a heater. The most common to go is the timer. But it would have to be checked by a technician to be sure.
