Question about DISH Network DVR-625 DTV Receiver / 100-Hours Video Recorder

1 Answer

My DVR-625, wont even turn on.

A couple days ago, my DVR had a message that said that there was something wrong with the hard drive. Then 2 days later, someone accidentally unplugged the DVR, and now it doesn't even want to turn on.
I Held the power button in for like 10 seconds, then the power light would go on, but then after another 5 secs it would turn off.

Can anyone help?

Re: My DVR-625, wont even turn on.

At the time the hard drive problem came up the receiver would of went into recovery mode this can take a good hour for it to fix and can do nothing until it would finish on its own and take care of. Doing the power reset is just like unpluging the receiver. Try unpluging again for 30 minutes and plug back in again and just wait receiver should come back on its own. Don't hit any buttons. If not will have to send out to dish for repair. 800-333-3474 dish

Why does my Dish Network DVR-625 DTV receiver sound like it is running all the time

The Dish 625 as with the other Dish DVR systems has a fan built into the back of the unit. The fan runs nearly all the time to keep the internal drive cool. Sometimes the fan sounds louder that normal. what I do from time to time is take my shop vac and or the small vac u you use to clean your computer. and clean the vents around the fan. I do this on my desk top computer also.. Hope this helps.

Hi my nameis Mike Houston of DISH Network and I see you want to get your recordings offyour DVR receiver to a hard drive through your USB slot. Depending on thereceiver and external hard drive or device you have and you will need to makesure it meets all the requirements, if you are using the 522 or 625 DVRreceivers you can only use the Pocket DISH portable media players. Those modelsthat are compatible are; AV402E, AV500E and AV700E, if you have any questionsplease e-mail me at

Error message 24 - DVR not available

The 024 message means the hard drive itself is having problems functioning correctly. Try a hard reset where you unplug the receiver for 10-15 seconds and plug back in. If the problem persists a replacement may be necessary.

Unfortunately, there is no way of saving your DVR, i would ask Dish for an upgrade to a Vip series rec, for example a 622 or 722 which can allow the use of an external hard drive. it also sounds like your root problem is with the voltage in the outet your dvr in connected to, try to plug directly into wall, if it is already, have an electrician check your voltage to prevent future issues.

Recovery of content on DVR-625 hard drive

usually hard drive failure boils down to files not opening succesfully, or a random internal failure, not a physical issue with the hard drive, however because dish network repairs these issues on a large scale the fix is to wipe the software and start over which means all recordings are lost, unfortunately recovering these recordings is basically impossible... if you often record things which are imperative to your business i would suggest getting a 622/722 dvr which will allow you to download these recordings to an external hard drive via usb, you will have unlimited use uploading and downloading programs for a one time fee of about 40$
