KitchenAid convection oven - panel went black during self-clean SOS

I was self-cleaning my oven. After about hour the contol panel went black. The fan was still working but the door is locked and won't open and I have no screen. I tried re-setting the circuit breaker but that didn't work. My oven still won't open and the screen is still black, of course it's Thanksgiving day and I planned on baking ALL weekend. Any idea how I can fix this? HELP!!!!

that sounds like it might just unlock the door, but if my panel is shot that isn't going to help me use my oven.

Having the same problem. The repairman has been 4x, has replaced circuit board, control panel and thermostat. Still can't run a self-clean cycle. After about an hour, when the oven reachs full cleaning temp, it shuts down and we are back having no oven. Have yet to be able to run a cleaning cycle since we bought the oven.

These ovens have notoriously bad control panel electronics. There is one control board for the oven that can be replaced or sent out for repair, $100 to $300.

Kitchenaid double digital convection conversion oven keypad went out. Any ideas on the problem. Electric panel circuit breakers are okay. Sharon C.

I think these use the same controller board as the Jenn-air units, they have a weak capacitor (C3) on the control board (Timer/control Display). Remove the top panel and look for a discolored or leaking capacitor (usually black about 1/2" high 3/8" in accross). Replace the capacitor and the problem goes away, until next time you use the self clean cycle which seems to overheat the control board and ruin the capacitor.

There is a overload thermostat on the rear of the oven that will have to be replaced.
Self cleaning features are not recommended by most appliance technicians.
Self cleaning causes parts to fail often.

OVEN will not heat

KitchenAid KEBC107KSS does not heat hot enough and does not heat evenly. When the temperature is dialed higher, it burns the cookies. When the convection fan is on, it has a 'cooling effect' so the temperature never reaches the proper level. Is this problem repairable? Or is this a thermostat issue? Thank you for your help!

there is a thermal fuse in the back of the oven that more than likely has tripped during self clean poor air flow around can cause this power surges during self clean can too you have to pull the oven out and remove back panel to find it

Kitchen aid model# kgri801pbs

On most models, the door stays locked during a self clean, until the temperature returns to normal for safety reasons.

It sounds like your unit may have tripped a breaker during this self clean event. Check your panel for a tripped breaker. If the oven has cooled down, and the lock is still engaged, then we may have a different problem.

Let me know what you find out!

Oven will not heat at all after an interrumpted cleaning cycle (power went off)

There is a thermo fuse located behind the back panel of the oven. If the oven appears to be working but is not actually heating then this is the cause. The oven will have to be removed from the wall, power to the oven shut off at the main breaker and the back panel removed. the thermo fuse is just to the left and up from the center of the convection fan. It has 2 wires connected to it.
