Your ISP will supply you with a pre-configured modem that the ISP is friendly and able to support. Otherwise, if you advise what country you're in, there are some very good websites available to get you a lot off regular store prices. Cheers, eiger3790.

DSU 6424 connection

Unfortunately if the problem started after a lightning storm the modem is almost certainly fried. I used to work at the UK's largest IT support call centre, we used to check the weather reports every morning because if there had been a lightning storm anywhere in the country we'd get a slew of calls from that region from people who could no longer connect to the web. Phone-lines collect a large static charge during a storm and are unprotected. I'd strongly suggest you contact the supplier regarding replacement.

Router internet light not working

You may have to reset your modem by unpluggin it for 30 seconds. The you might have to reset the router by doing the smae. power cycling reboots the equipment and allows it to obtain a new IP address. if you have a static address in your modem, then you might just need to reset the router and/or check the settings. your router could also be fried, especially after a storm and/or power surge. try to see if you can get internet being directly hooked up to the modem, or if you have a WISP who uses ubiquiti or motorola canopy, ask them to see whether or not you have a static ip and might need to set up the router accordingly. Routers go bad all the time, trust me on that. Generally speaking, if you plug into them modem and get internet, and if router reset does not help, then your router is probably bad.

My router flashes DSL, no light on the internet, ethernet and wireless flash together, and power light on. no wired or wireless internet. solution? the afternoon it happened, a lightning storm came thru...

Hey danielbartle,

Since a lighting storm came through there is a good chance your router has been fried.

I would first direct connect via your modem to see if you get a internet connection and rule out your modem as a problem. If that doesn't work I would try another ethernet cord to rule out your cord is a problem. If you get no connection directly through your modem, I would contact your ISP with your problem.

If you get a connection I would then reset the router by unplugging and waiting 30 seconds and plugging it back in.

If still nto succesful I would reset your router to defualt settings by a small button you will find on back.

If none of these work I would head to your local computer shop and pick up a new router.

Thanks for using Fixya!

Fax modem does not transmit. We recently had a bad storm and it was connect to a powerline phone jack. The phone jack was fried during the storm and i think the modem was too. I think the modem needs...

No...you nedd the proper HP Modem, and unless this is a relatively high end (several hundred dollar) machine -because you have not listed the model, then you might as well use it for a really big paper weight now, and buy another one, because repair will be far more, than cost of machine -I recommend buying a good surge supressor at the same time too (and i'm not talking about a power bar)

My dial up modem was fried in a power outage. I need to get a new one. Its for a toshiba l45 series. D40 modem. where can I get one

Two choices: order from Toshiba (possibly expensive) or purchase a PCMCIA modem (uses the laptops card slot). You can also try purchasing a USB modem (easiest to install). Head to a computer store for either of these parts.

Modem

First, you better the driver of the modem was well installed in Device Manage. If not, re-install the driver from Toshiba site again.

second, check/replace the phone line to make sure not the cable's problem.

And if it still same, you check Toshiba web to find what modem card look like for your laptop model and how much for cost(not cheap), and you can open a small cover from the bottom of laptop, and will see a small PCB board with a wire attached(Must look like what you see from Toshiba site, make sure it is not memory chip), then carefully unplug from motherboard and wire and replaced new one if you buy. BUT I don't think it is DIY.

The cheap way is buy a PCMCIA card modem and plug in the PCMCIA slot, which every one can do it.

Good luck.
