Printing, sw, virus ?

I've tried 2 separate printers (both HP) will receive signal from pc/laptops (3 diff computers tried 2 different cables) but doesn't print. Printers seem to position where text should be printing but blank pages come out. It appears that it's not a printer hardware issue. Problem printing w any app as well-(excel, wordpad, word, notepad). One pc is vista one is xp. Problem started with word doc newsletter doing multiiple printings. Is this some kind of virus? I ran virus scan and spyware scan but didn't find or fix issue. help!

Re: printing, sw, virus ?

It's possible that it's a virus, but probably not. I'm having a hard time following your testing process above and the amount of equipment you're using. You've complicated the debugging process a little bit with introducing many computers and printers in the description.

Are you using one computer? Do you have just one printer that's not working? With a general symptom like this, try and stick with one of your devices, and switch out the others. For example, if your trying to print to ANY printer, the PC would seem to be the problem. Be sure the printer drivers have been deleted and reinstalled fresh. Printers are pretty straight forward, it's the drivers and the computer communicating with them that are rather finicky.

It's usually a printer driver problem. My best advice is to pick the computer of choice, completely remove the printer drivers (you might have to go in to Safe Mode of the computer, pressing F8 when the system boots, prior to the Windows Logo and choosing Safe Mode), once in there, remove any or all printers from the system; click YES to any messages that ask you to delete the drivers from the system. Reboot. Disconnect your printer, reinstall the drivers, connect the printer and try printing from Notepad.

Remember to keep it pretty simple, especially when asking for advice and indicating what steps you've already gone through.

Keep asking questions and I'll get you resolved. Let me know what you come up with from here.

In Windows 7, items put in the print queue at home won't print when I get to the office.

I don't see how this can be done, because there are 2 different print queues in question. Not to mention the lag and buffer required by the printer. So when you disconnect communication the job hangs.

Besides the spooler at work my lie on a dedicated print server, especially if the printer is on a network and and not attached directly to you PC.

I got error on printer LBP2900 when connect to my laptop (windows 7) It show communication error but usb connection and software installation no problem. Any idea about it?

Most likely it is a corrupt software installation.
You can try the easy things first: 1) Unplug the USB cable from the computer 2) Reboot 3) Plug the USB cable back into the computer, see if the communication error happens again
If that doesn't work, time to reinstall the software: 1) Go to Control Panel > Add Remove Programs OR Programs (depending on which version of Windows you have) 2) Remove every piece of software related to your printer 3) Unplug the USB cable from your computer 4) Reboot 5) Disable any Anti-Virus or Firewall software that you have running 6) Re-run the printer installation software

When i click on the printer icon on the bottom right hand corner of the screen a message "no hp devices have been detected.Hp solution centre will close now" it will print for me but it wont...

You have not given complete information of your Printer and OS. The reason your computer cannot detect your printer is that your Operating System (like Windows XP or Windows Vista) does not contain your printer driver(software) so you have to download the driver separately. For this you have to Google the following information.
(1)Your printer Vendor (like HP, Epson etc)
(2)Your printer's model number
(3)Your Operating system

Make sure that
(1) Your Computer is free of Viruses otherwise get a good anti virus update it and check and clean your computer.
(2) Take a good Registry cleaning software like RegCure, Registry booster etc and use it to clean the registry of your computer with bad links and other corrupt information of your Operating System.
These registry software are very basic and easy to use and I recommend it to be a must of all client PCs.
If you have problems in buying one try this freeware Registry cleaner.

(3)If this does not help then change your printer setup file it must be corrupt. You should attain a setup file for your printer from a different source or try your setup file which is giving an error, take it and try to install it on another computer if there is a similar error than the problem is definitely with the setup file.
On the contrary time if there is no error and setup installs smoothly on the other computer then your computer especially the Operating system(Like Windows XP, Vista and 7) require special attention your PC should be free of Viruses your Registry should be extremely neat and clean and you should be using good Registry software. There will many errors in your registry needed to be fixed by registry software but if your registry does not have the problem which the registry software will tell you.
In the most extreme cases upgrading or reinstalling your Operating System will dramatically show good results provided the setup file is not corrupt.

Good Luck!

Can't find printer on network

1.How are you attaching to the network printer from your daughters computer? IP address, or by the name of the printer...Also make sure you check you are attaching to the network printer, and not local printer.

2. Install the Microsoft TCP/IP version 6 protocol on both computers by clicking install on your LAN properties, then restart PC. This should work!

Constant error messages from hp deskjet2400

From the forum this is in, I will assume that you are running Win2k3EE on your laptop. Your issue might be a compatability issue with the print drivers. HP is notorious for making bad print drivers (ever since their aquisition of Compaq...before that, they did rock-solid work IMHO). For this printer, you may want to 1) uninstall the printer and use the Windows printer install wizard, as opposed to the HP installer, or 2) see if HP does offer a Server 2003 specific driver. HP commonly includes a bunch of "junk" in their Deskjet print drivers because those printers are targeted to individual home users who will use XP or Vista. Hope this helps...I know it isn't much to go on...good luck!

Print Spooler service is not running. I tried to start the Print spooler service but it it shows ' local computer cannot open service'.I am the administrator. Kindly suggest.

It sounds like a firewall issue or a driver issue - check through the settings on your firewall and see if print spooler service has been blocked. then remove and reinstall the printer driver on the administrator machine, and re-network the printer - goto "my network places", select "add printer" and follow the instructions in the wizard that opens Please post back with some more details of your network - there could be another hardware issue that is causing a clash. Hope this helps :)
